If by "supplementary" you mean "auxiliary", then...
This distinction matters less to me, living in Wichita, than it probably does to people in other regions.  I-135 is an almost-hundred-mile-long trunk route through farmland and is probably the third-most important highway in the state.  So it feels weird to think of it as a second-class route just because of its three-digit number.
Anyway, that was just a total aside.  Carry on, everyone...

I don't consider them to be "second class" just that in most cases they are auxiliary to mainline routes.

It used to be I-35W and it could be argued that depicted more prominence than I-135.

Same could be said for I-70S and I-270. Nothing second class about the route that connects I-70 to Washington.

I-476 (132 miles long) deserves a mainline route as it functions like an intercity route. It could be a second iteration of I-85.

Mine are
2di: I-99. I think I-70 would barely be closer if the Baltimore segment had been built as planned.
3di: I-781. I had driven by the now-eastern end on US 11 a few times before it was built, but haven't been to Watertown since.

I will be moving in a couple of months. After that, I-781 will still win, but I-180 will become only a few miles further.

I've since clinched both I-180 and I-225, my next-closest untraveled Interstate. My answer for this is now I-135 in Kansas at 412 miles away, followed very closely by the western I-86 at 413 miles away.

After years of careful consideration, I've concluded I've never been on I-581. Pretty sure I've never been on I-85.

Having clinched I-587 in NY today, I can now confirm the closest stretch is I-195 RI/MA.  The 2DI remains the officially designated stretch of I-86 in NY east of I-81.

Probably I-78 (I live in Queens)
I've walked past the Rotary and over the pedestrian overpass but unless i ended up briefly touching the asphalt at the end of the last exit I don't think I've ever been on 78

No. None of it. The reference to "south of Lubbock" is to the distance I'd have to travel to get to some point on it. That's the closest point by road.

The answer would be the same, though, even if I had driven some of it, but that's not the question of this thread.

At this point in my life, I'm probably never going to go closer to downtown OKC than I-344 unless I'm heading south from there on I-35.  And I almost never am anymore, because I also avoid Dallas–Fort Worth like the plague.

Unless things have changed since I moved, going through downtown OKC is still faster than I-344 because of how square the latter is. As downtown areas go, OKC's is not really that congested.

I'm typically going from Wichita down through Lawton, so it's I-35 to I-44.  Southbound is pretty early on a Saturday morning or a Sunday morning.  Northbound is either a Saturday or a Sunday at around 4:00 to 4:30 PM.

I've never had much trouble southbound going I-35 to I-40 to I-44 (aside from the bouncy bridge from 40 to 44).  But I've hit a traffic jam or two northbound on I-35 north of downtown.

I don't care for I-44 through downtown.  Granted, the only time I drove it was in the middle of a heavy rainstorm, but it's too curvy and urban for my liking.

I once did a combination of I-344 and OK-74 to connect between the two, and it was mostly good except for some slow-down southbound approaching the I-40 interchange.

Last time, though, I took the advice of people on this forum, and I took I-344 all the way around to Sara Road, then straight south down OK-4 to I-44.  Yes, it took a few minutes longer, but it was a lot less stressful—even with Sara Road being under construction at the time.  Personally, I'd rather 'waste' five or ten minutes if it means saving me from getting stressed out by traffic.
