Something tells me he somehow used one of those car carrier trucks ramps to do that. lol.

Bryant,

Don't be surprised if your car is declared a total loss by an insurance company in any sort of property damage claim. That is of course if the other driver is determined to be at fault.

I had a similar incident happen to me. In my case the traffic to the right was stopped and the car wanted to dart into the empty left turn lane at the light. I saw the driver turning and managed to pull an evasive maneuver and avoided a serious hit, I got two very minor dents just forward of the rear wheel well (no door damage) and the rim took most of the hit (mostly paint damage on the wheel). The other car just had a scuffed bumper. People don't pay attention, whats amazing is the other driver claimed to be making a left turn! Where? I really don't know as there were no cross streets or driveways at that location, just woods.

Bryant5493

^^ Well, surprisingly it wasn't totaled out. It was fixed. Can't even tell it was damaged. I did have to put in a new transmission, because the damn transmission went out on me a few weeks after getting I got it back.

Chris

I had an accident back in 2006, my fault, I hit another car in the back on the French "Autoroute". I just had my license for 3 months, and no real experience, and driving during the so-called "black saturdays" is not exactly a smart thing to do. Me and my girlfriend got out unharmed, and so were the persons in the car I crashed into. I think I drove about 55 mph, and he was doing about 40 mph, so it wasn't a big crash, but I totaled my '94 Corolla. (which is not weird, since the value of a 12 year old car at the time was barely a few thousand dollars, and repairing it was more expensive). They say it's economically totaled if the damage repairs are more than 65% of the value.

The Dutch motorist association ANWB (similar to triple A) got my car back to the Netherlands where I sold it for 500 dollars to a garage (the engine was still in good condition with only 80,000 miles on it). A year later, I saw it driving again, they apparantly managed to fix it, and sold it again.

accidents.......ewwww!

Last one i had was when soem driver was turning left as i was turning right (our sides scraped each other in a nice rendition of NASCAR rubbin') , violating Rule 66 of the State Drivers Manual....'No two vehicles may occupy the same space at the same time"....HE took off (leaving me and trhe SO to guess he was either high, drunk, illegal, suspended or some combination thereof....got the front repaired, but since we never found the other guy, i took the hit....

Worst one i had was in Sept 88.....was driving to work at about 35 or 40, when some lady did a left turn right in front of me....all i recall before the impact was stomping on the brakes and yelling "OH SH1T!!!" at impact.....and afterward, staring at the blood all over my shirt and pants and thinking rather numbly to myself "I am gonna be a MESS when i get into work!"  Took seven stitches to close up the cut (Looked like Dusty Rhodes at his finest after an NWA event!)  She was found at fault (I had the green), but the worst part was the car i had to buy in its place saddled me with a variable rate payment plan...so after 3 years the monthly payments ballooned from $345 to $460!!!   :wow:   took me SIX years to pay off a five year loan thanks to that!

As for you, sir, i am glad you were OK< and you had the evidence to back you up just in case things got ugly!

BTW< how DO you mount a video camera on the dash?  I have an old SONY Handicam (tape) and an 07 Taurus...can that work?

Thanks, man.

Easiest way to mount it to the dash is to use velcro. Place one part on the bottom of camera and the other on the dashboard. It's pretty stable.

And, yeah, it should work.

whatever destroys SUVs is fine by me ...

Agreed. I always have the most problems with those drivers. They cut you off because they're too ignorant to check their blind spots.
So many roads...so little time.

Or too self-absorbed in their phone conversation. I see that all too often in Atlanta -- not just SUVs in particular, but they are a huge culprit with distracted driving. Seems like bigger = immortality.  :-D

Was involved in an accident on I-65 this evening, I am alright just a few bumps and bruises, I hope.  Ended up hitting the jersey barrier.

Bryant5493

^^
Sorry to hear that. Glad to hear that you're alright.

How did it happen?

I was riding in the passenger's seat of my sister's car traveling Northbound on I-65 last night.  We were headed to Winfield, AL for a couple of days.  Anyway, we had gotten on I-65 at Lakeshore Parkway.  We were just north of Green Springs Ave and my sister was making a lane change.  To make a long story short, We were hit in the driver's side rear and my sister lost control of the car.  Next thing I knew, we were headed right for the jersey barrier.  We hit the barrier and the car stopped.  We were not hurt but my sister was badly shaken up (had a cut on her arm that was treated at the scene) and my neck is still hurting from the impact.  I cannot confirm it but I am pretty sure the car was totaled (I did not get picture because I was shaken up).  I had been back home for a few hours from spending my weekend in Winfield with my parents and was taking my sister up there.  My mother got to the scene roughly 30 minutes after the crash.  After I called my dad right after the crash, he left Winfield and came back home.

Glad it wasn't any worse.

Good to hear that no one was seriously injured.

That is actually the first thing I thought of, if the barrier was not there we would have gone head on into opposing traffic.

My dad's all right, might have a sore back.  He was rear-ended in an apparent hit-and-run this afternoon in Homewood.  From what I saw, the back of my mother's car is pretty smashed up (my dad was planning to pick up my mother this afternoon and then head out of town for the weekend).  We're not entirely sure but I believe that because of the cars age and mileage it will likely be considered totaled.

On another note, shortly after my sister's accident a year ago (earlier this thread) we had car dealerships call the house trying to sell us a new car.  My sister ended up getting a 2010 Dodge Avenger to replace her old car.

The last car accident I was involved in was in 2009. I was at as stop sign as I was coming out of my neighborhood on my way to work and suddenly, a young lady driving a Mitsubishi made a sharp right turn unto my street. My car (a 1993 Geo Storm) was later considered a total loss. That was the last time I drove the car. The other driver didn't have insurance, but it was her aunt's car and the aunt had insurance, so her insurance paid for my loss. I ended up with my Honda Civic about two weeks later.

The only car collision I have been in was on I-25 Southbound near the Carr exit north of Wellington. I was in the passenger seat of my father's truck, and he was driving. We went up to get fireworks for the 4th of July (don't tell anyone  ) right across the State line. On the way up we witnessed a previous incident in the southbound median. Traffic was starting to back up, because there was only one lane for everyone to funnel into.

As we were heading back to Fort Collins, we came upon the backup in the right lane. In the right lane there was a slowed truck, us, and then the semi that nearly hit us. Upon realizing that the semi wasn't stopping, we hauled ass for the center median. The truck slammed into the semi in front of us at close to 75mph while we were dodging median posts. A truck with two college age females was in the left lane next to the semi. When we took off for the median, they knew something was up and followed us.

The scene was a mess as we ran up to assist. The truck was completely totaled. The driver was alive in a small compact space. I frantically called 911, oblivious to the fact that EMS raced up the Southbound lanes from the previous incident. He was black, with only shorts and sandals on. I didn't care to look at his injuries yet he was able to barely answer basic questions by EMS.

The driver of the semi in front was fine with possibly only whiplash. The paramedic was able to hold a conversation with him and didn't require a stretcher. One frigging stuck up asshole on a motorcycle decided that he was just too damn important to wait and blew by the EMS. The police weren't there right at that moment I don't think.

Later we all gathered in a group and talked about what just happened. The police took our reports, one by one, and those in-front of the scene were permitted to leave. Those behind... they were stuck for 2 hours unless they made a u-turn and headed North. CSP had no choice but to close Southbound I-25 during the PM rush for 5 hours and block the left northbound lane.

2:35PM June 30, 2011. A moment I will NEVER forget.
