I guess they felt when they truncated the northern end of 433 when WSDOT re-routed 432, they needed to go into Oregon to have enough room for a northbound 433 shield.

Speaking of SR 503, when the re-routed SR 500 a couple years ago (to form that ridiculous useless concurrency with SR 503), they put up these strange unisigns on the new alignment
