How can we tell that is from CT?  There is nothing in that picture that can tell us it's from CT.  Thus, it's invalid.  Man do I hate the square states. lol.

indeed, it could be WV, or even MA on a particularly foolish day.

here's a proper 173.

Besides, we can't trust someone who posts what state it is? Connecticut doesn't have its own special shield yet, meaning you can complain about every single one, especially since CT 175 is also up and waiting

You can tell that 173 is Connecticut because CT does not use wide shields for 3 digit routes. West Virginia does.

but only as of 1970.  Older WV squares are square even for three-digit routes.

The state list at TN 173 dropped both NC and TN. NC should still be in play.

added it to the list

Are we going to be in trouble in a few more numbers?  There are very few options coming up for OR, ID, ND, SD -- however, there weren't that many to begin with in these states.  Any remaining eastern states which will be troublesome?  I'm thinking DE might be impossible.

Delaware is, in fact, impossible for this round, and always was.

Rhode Island only has 179 and 195 left.

Vermont only has 189 and 191 left.

New Hampshire... we screwed New Hampshire by not using it before 175. It has nothing left.

Connecticut and Massachusetts have plenty of numbers remaining, the only problem is context.
If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

a "naked shield" (just a number on a green sign with no white background) is sufficient to uniquely identify MA.

Nothing left for SD for current state routes (don't know about former routes) in the 151-200 range.  Ditto DE.  Only 200 for ID.  A few for OR.  Don't know about ND.

ID also has I-184, US 191 and US 195.  OR only has US 197 and US 199.  I think ND only has ND 200 as I-194 is unsigned.  SD has US 183 and I-190.

agentsteel53

I have never been able to find an I-194 shield, so 200 it is.

179, anyone?  The only 179 I have is Arizona.

froggie

Unless someone has a county route shield hiding somewhere (possible, but unlikely), Minnesota is now limited to 194, 197, or 200.

Mississippi has 182, 194, or 198.

Ohio used to use those in some "hey, this road is turning" incidences.  So maybe not.

I've never seen that.  Got a picture?  Does it use the paddle style of sign that MA likes?

(if you show me a paddle sign from Ohio, with cut corners and the Mass. custom font, I will be forced to excrete a piece of construction material.)

there is a 194?  Is it a former state route 194 alignment, to correspond with 182, 198 (and 145, 149, 178, etc)?

Typo.  Should have been 184.  There is no 194 in Mississippi.
