Some of the Canadian smoke has made it as far as Texas according to meteorologists, but it must be aloft because I couldn't tell.

As my son, an amateur pilot, quipped, "The winds have never been so calm in upstate NY."  Smoke is actually worse here today than yesterday.

"Waves 1 Foot Or Less." (and not just today - every day)

Wow.  That's practically unheard of for the middle of the day.

It odd how we're still smoked out when they were previously saying it should be gone by now.  It feels like August 2025 is going to be the second coming of June 2023.

A fire has closed down one of the mountains I was considering climbing this weekend. Looks like I'll have to pivot (looking at Mt. Yale now).

The "Garnet Fire" is a fairly big one burning between Fresno and Kings Canyon National Park.  The smoke from that one has been moving into my area, a couple hundred miles to the north, over the last couple hours.

We've done well with smoke-free skies to this point this year, but now we're heading into the September peak fire season so luck may be running out.

Funny how that works with the smoke.  I'm 50 miles west of the Garnet Fire and have yet to see any smoke.  Good thing I knocked driving Big Creek Road in Sierra National Forest earlier this year though.  I suspect given the remote nature of the terrain that fire crews will use Blackrock Road as a fire break and let it burn up to the Wishon Reservoir.

Edit:  Never mind on Blackrock, the fire already crossed it.
