So no park reservation is required before summer begins?

This year they start June 15th and go to August 15th.  The hours of enforcement are 6 AM to 2 PM.  I can easily beat that 6 AM start time but my wife isn't keen on getting up and on the road so early:

As an aside, the Coulterville Road (high clearance) doesn't have anyone enforcing even the park entrance fee.  I believe this is also the case on Chowchilla Mountain Road (another high clearance road) but I'm unclear if there is a gate at the park boundary.  I might have better insight soon as I plan to drive Chowchilla Mountain Road this summer.

Some photos from Chowchilla Mountain Road.  This was a stage road between Mariposa and Wawona constructed in 1870.  I'm unclear if it goes all the way to Yosemite National Park since I stopped at Battalion Pass.  This road is pretty badass and haggard for something maintained by a county (Mariposa County).  I needed AWD even in dry conditions a couple times and there was no way a car was getting much past the "impassable NOV-MAY" sign.  I'll be trying a hike from the Wawona Hotel west along this road to Battalion Pass in the Fall.

I'm including this because it's also the closest thing I have to a senior photo:

Well, this is Max Rockatansky's idea of a road, anyway.  It's the trail up Black Mesa in Oklahoma, Oklahoma's highest point:

Ironically, you're onto something with my idea of what a remote mountainous road is...
