Incomplete road signs

Have you/do you know of any signs that, intentionally or not, weren't quite finished/the mounters forgot something?

Here's an example (that may or may not actually be incomplete, on I-44 in central Missouri):

That looks like a road name. I was thinking more along the lines of the new Exit 6 signs on the NJ Turnpike where the I-95 shield is/was covered up because the interchange between the PA and NJ Turnpikes is not (remotely even close to being) done.

Someone should post a picture, because it's hard to do that on an iPhone.
Life would be boring if we didn't take an offramp every once in a while

I would think it's more like a speed limit sign without a number on it.  For some reason, contractors for a construction project here in NJ would do that on occasion.

Ah, that's where County Road got moved to after it was deleted from this sign.  :D

(from Steve's MA 140 page)

I tried to get a pic of a ramp speed sign on I-71 SB at the OH 539 exit that had no numerals for the ramp speed; by the next chance I had, they had patched them on.  (Sign replacement the last couple years in turn replaced that whole sign with one that had numbers to start with.)

NY 17 signs with blank spaces for I-86 are a possible example of the type Zeffy mentions, or the long-lasting signs in Boston with space for I-95 shields (including the one with a faint I-1 in white) that had the shields removed after they were mounted prematurely.

My favorite incomplete sign was a one-off replacement on US 30 EB for OH 37; they almost finished the sign.

It was doctored within a couple months at most.  Still, not sure how something like that leaves the sign shop in the first place.

A freeway is a freeway. We could cheaply build many new Interstates if it weren't for the nitty-gritty intricacy of Interstate Standards.

Forgotten destination text?

Could have been greened out. WISDot greened out "Oshkosh" from signs on US 151 at the WIS 26 junctions (probably because they would rather traffic to Oshkosh follow US 151 to I-41), so there's an awkward space on the bottom of the signs in that area now.

Here's one from my private collection I took last fall on the Gunflint Trail in Minnesota. The route being intersected is Cook County Road 83, but for some reason they posted...these...with no shields (they exist in both directions on the Gunflint).

There is one on NB Poinciana Blvd. in Kissimmee, FL.  I have a photo of it, but have not posted it on a website yet, and as you all know we cannot post them here yet without a sever link.

It reads,  TOLL Disney World where its missing the Osceola Parkway shield in between, as Osceola County likes to use purple placecards for its parkway's destinations beneath the road's shields.  Yes, a local road that is not a freeway has shields!

I think its hillarious as Disney charges near 20 bucks to park a car, and over 100 dollars a person for a day's admission to each of their four theme parks, so a toll plate above the resort is an understatement but a hefty one at that.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

This one has bothered me since it's been put up. This exits to the right after going under the overpass. There is no arrow on the sign. There was one on the sign it replaced and there is one on the exit for Wolfpen Pleasant-Hill Rd. South.

There's this thing.  It remained like that for 2-3 months after the construction was done but has since been fixed.  Alas, Google isn't sharing closer imagery.

No Green Out.  This sign has always looked like this.

And thanks FX...I've seen this sign on my trips down 95, and could never remember where it was located by the time I got home.

That sign has just said "County Road" for as long as I can remember. I stayed at the campground off of that exit once when I was a kid (probably 15 years ago or more), and I'm pretty sure the sign just said "County Road" back then too, because I remember thinking it was strange, even to my elementary-school-age roadgeek self.

Apparently the full name of the road is County Road X44-616 (at least according to Google). I guess I can see why they shortened it.

bzakharin

According to street blades the road is called Dove Road and the best I can figure from street view, has no route number posted. The official map at http://modot.org/newsandinfo/documents/countymaps/laclede.pdf does show it a a county road based on the legend, but has no number posted

I've seen a few blank signs. Sometimes green signs, sometimes yellow or blue. Why not just remove it?
