State - who knows how far they're up to now? A few 6000-series frontage roads are signed in the western part of the state. The parkways are 9000-series but they have logo signs, not numbered route markers.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

I could have sworn I've seen signed 4-digit state routes in PA.

4-digit routes are a separate type from routes numbered under 1000.

Yeah, they're called quadrant routes.  They're unique within a county, not at a statewide level, and they're only supposed to be signed on reference markers.  Are you saying that you've seen regular route shields for them?

There are a few roads in the more rural parts of the Commonwealth where their Quadrant Route number is their only name so it wouldn't surprise me someone decided to slap it on a keystone.

Corco, thank you for the wide open West photos you posted.  They are great!

US 101 is THE backbone of the Pacific coast from Bandon OR to Willits CA.  Industry, tourism and local traffic would be gone or severely crippled without it being in functioning condition in BOTH states.

It's only a construction zone sign, so it gets a huge asterisk, but there is this:

I thought I remember back in the day there being a sign on Toll-66 that referenced a 4-digit SR - I think just for the toll information sign - but my brain could just be making up BS.
I don't have opinions anymore. All I know is that no one is better than anyone else, and everyone is the best at everything

national highway 1

Until 2013, New South Wales had a hierarchical shielded route system which has now been replaced by the alpha-numeric system.

National Route: 79
State Route: 157

Manitoba's highest is 632 (though I couldn't find it and it may not even be signed). Highest one I found signed was 594.
Is there a provincial trunk (primary system) highway in Manitoba numbered higher than 101? I know the PTHs don't go into the 200s.

190 is the highest PTH route I know of in the province. It was opened about 1-2 years ago and is in the works for being extended west to Headingley. Here is a picture:

Saskatchewan's northernmost secondary routes go up into the 900s, though I don't know the highest off the top of my head. At least one of its 900s is legendarily awful.

According to Wikipedia, highest is 999, but once again, I don't think it's signed.
