Has New Jersey really not changed their map since 2009?  I picked one up from a welcome center off the turnpike and it's dated 2009 and has John Corzine on the back as Governor.  I ordered one from the website and it was the same thing.

You are likely getting old stock. The PDF of the state maps on the NJ GIS site have the new governor on them.

Those may become collector's items if Corzine gets indicted for financial misdeeds at his new gig.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

I still have a McGreevey era map in my glovebox, kind of fits the era my car was built (March 2003).

Does looking at it give you strange urges to visit rest areas?  :-D :-D :-D

They definitely haven't updated their map in that long, so maybe only the online maps have been updated. Besides, who wants Christie on the map? He takes up half a side!

Which service area did you stop at?  I stopped at the James Fenimore Cooper Service Area (NB after Exit 4) last week and didn't see any maps.

Ditto, though in my case it was last August and the one SB before exit 8; I was disappointed not to see any.  New Jersey and Quebec are the only states/provinces that I've been to but don't have a map more detailed than a page or two in my 2006 American Map atlas.

In related news, the Thruway seems to have moved its maps from the service areas to the toll booths.

Yeah I didn't see any last time I was there, either.  Molly Pitcher service area southbound had them, though.

I got two different NY maps at the Warners service area on the Thruway.  One looked like it was the standard NY visitors bureau map and the other focused specifically on places to stay throughout the state.  I was hoping to see something specific to the Thruway, too, but didn't see any.  Does the Thruway have its own maps or brochures at the toll booths now?

The guy there was very friendly and kept giving me all kinds of stuff about the Finger Lakes area.  I'm sure it's lovely but I had no plans on stopping.

They've had Thruway-specific maps for quite some time.  I have one from 2007 or 2008 that was picked up at a travel plaza.  I haven't seen one at a travel plaza since, though to be honest I haven't looked hard.  I did see them at the cash lanes for getting on at exit 45 (I-490/NY 96) though.

I was just at NJDOT yesterday and today, and over lunch break I saw a small pile of maps on the desk. I have a 2012 in my possession, and other than different photos and a few different fonts, it looks roughly the same as the 2009. Without both in front of me I can't tell any differences, but not sure if 2009 had NJ 18 complete into Piscataway yet. Also, I recall the 2009 had 522 as a yellow divided road (correct), while 2012 has it as a thin gray road (wrong). In fact, the only yellow divided road on the 2012 map is the Palisades in NY (not even in NJ), which is all sorts of wrong, given that yellow is for non-state highway divided roads and the PIP has a state number in NY.

Any idea where I can get my hands on a current one of those now that I've left the state?  All the Thruway maps on eBay are from the 50s and 60s it seems.

So it DOES exist.  Though something tells me I'm better off with the one I have.  Maybe they know that and have only sent the older ones out for wider distribution?

Also, the Thruway map thing got me curious... Does the Turnpike Authority have any maps of its own anymore?

Re: NJ map, pretty sure they're just trying to push the old ones out, since they don't have the money to blow by trashing their 2009 investment.

vdeane

Where's the website to order a map?  Google isn't turning up anything useful; the closes I got was on NJDOT's site, which then shunted me to the tourism site which doesn't have any info on it that I can see.

Btw my map came from a 2011 trip to NJDOT with my grandfather.
