I pass by this ridiculous thing from time to time, in a U-Haul parking lot in Somerville, Mass.:

What other examples are there of private entities taking it upon themselves to throw up a gantry or whatever and play highway?

corco

That is among the most amazing things I have ever seen

You can never have the word EXIT too many times. :pan:

Most private signage that I've seen don't qualify as BGS though (e.g. airport signage).

PurdueBill

Find out who made that for them and have that firm take over signage from the MDC/DCR!!!

These were much better (with more realistic shields) before they were replaced sometime around 2000.

Shouldn't this one have been placed at the split and not before it?

Disney's aren't green but they serve the same role as private BGSs:

To be fair, most are posted by the RCID on public roads on Disney property so they may not actually qualify as private.

Delaware Park has two of their own:

Lincoln Financial Field in Philly (where the Eagles play) had something similar as one would leave their main parking lot (Unfortunately I don't have a picture), detailing directions to several highways/roadway.  The problem was, this particular exit is usually blocked off after a game, rendering the sign useless. When the exit is open after a game, traffic would be forced to turn right anyway to prevent left turning traffic from blocking the roadway, again rendering the sign useless.

To be fair, isn't the RCID just a representative of the landowner within its borders, i.e. Disney?

Towson Town Center, Towson, Md. (A large shopping center). I love love love how they used "BELTWAY" on the shield.  :pan:

Here's one from some rinky-dink amusement park in Northern Ohio:   ;-)

About as good as I would expect from an amusement park, which isn't saying much because it actually looks pretty darn good.

They used to have a whole slew of wooden overhead BGSs along the entire causeway, and in the parking area they had some of the nicest looking big green EXIT signs (about 30-some years ago).

Back to the modern signs, there are 2-3 more sets south of the link above, but GSV blurred many of the shields.  BTW, it's not often you find any signs for 3 even-numbered routes in-a-row together (SR-2, SR-4, US-6).

I'm not sure at all about these:

Stockwell Drive, Stoughton, Mass.

They are on a road that exists almost entirely to serve the retail businesses that are its only abutters, and they're blue.  But down in the bottom left-hand corner is what looks like the date and dimension text customarily found on MassDOT signs.

Some rinky-dink amusement park - LOL!  :-D

It's only bigger than any one of the Disney parks with more rides than two of them put together.

Yes, but the roads are legally public.

The exact same standards are used on RCID roads and Disney roads open to guests (e.g. World Drive north of Epcot Center Drive). Private roads intended for employees only have normal sign assemblies or tiny signs more like other private roads where anything is posted.

Here's one at the Petro Stopping Center just off of Exit 41 on the NY Thruway.  This is straight across NY 414 from the exit ramp.

It's button copy. Looks like Series D(M) button copy no less. How the hell does that end up happening?

That might be a Church full of roadgeeks (not being realistic, but that would be very cool if there was a Church full of Roadgeeks that had that button copy sign)  :-D
Now alternating between different highway shields for my avatar - my previous highway shield avatar for the last few years was US 76.

Probably acquired a sign with all the necessary letters.

Disney has a button copy sign (or it might be older cat's eye reflectors), but the Goog's photo sucks and I can't find my photo.
