NC has quite a few, in addition to having some similarly named county misplacements:

Henderson is not in Henderson County, but in Vance County (though HendersonVILLE is in Henderson County)
Madison is not in Madison County, but in Rockingham County
Graham is in Alamance County, not Graham County
Pittsboro is in Chatham County, not Pitt County
Rockingham is in Richmond County, not Rockingham County
Beaufort is in Carteret County, not Beaufort County.  Even more interesting, Beaufort's county seat of Washington is a short hop down from Washington County
Waynesville is in Haywood County, not Wayne County
Asheville is in Buncombe County, not Ashe County
Lenoir is in Caldwell County, a long distance from Lenoir County
Cherokee is in Swain County, not Cherokee County
Mooresville is in Iredell County, not Moore County
Stokesdale is in Rockingham County, not Stokes County (though they're not all that far apart)

Juneau is in Dodge County, not Juneau County
Dodgeville is is Iowa County, not Dodge County
Monroe is in Green County, not Monroe County
Menomonie is in Dunn County, not Menomonee County
Washburn is in Bayfield County, not Washburn County
Portage is in Columbia County, not Portage County
Menomonee Falls is in Waukesha County, not Menomonee County

No Nevada examples that I can think of.  The only example of a city and county sharing the same names that I am aware of would are Elko (county seat of Elko County) and Carson City (which is a consolidated city-county).

A bit of a diversion, but similar geographic oddities:
* The Carson Valley, does not contain any part of Carson City, but is actually located south of the city in Douglass County.
* Nevada City is the county seat of Nevada County...in California.

furthermore, if you take Nevada at its literal meaning ("snowy", in Spanish), Nevada City is kind of a misnomer.  It is in the western Sierra foothills.  Yes, it certainly gets snow, but not nearly as much as the mountain towns to the immediate east of it, like for example Soda Springs or Truckee, which are well up in the mountains.  If any city deserves the name "Nevada City", it should be Truckee, which is known for its heavy snowfalls: they average 198 inches a year!

Or in Tennessee, you have "Metro Government" and the largest example is that Nashville and Davidson County are pretty much one and the same with the exception of a handful of other incorporated entities in the county.

South Carolina has at least one, too.  There is a community of Richland, which is in Oconee County between Seneca and Westminster.

Richland County's county seat is over 100 miles away...Columbia.

Ontario, NY is not in Ontario County (It's in Wayne County).
Genesee, NY is not in Genesee County (It's in Allegany County).
Allegany, NY is not in Allegany County (It's in Cattaraugus County).
Steuben, NY is not in Steuben County (It's in Oneida County).
Wayne, NY is not in Wayne County (It's in Steuben County).
Yates, NY is not in Yates County (It's in Orleans County).
Orleans, NY is not in Orleans County (It's in Jefferson County).

Sorry, it doesn't.  There are plenty of counties across the U.S. that have no city of the same name.  This thread is where a city and county in have the same name in a state but the city is not in the county.
