if properly drawn, all of them.  Colorado has a little jog on its west side that Wyoming does not.

10/10.

Given the choices, it wasn't too hard. Or maybe I'm underestimating the average person's stupidity. Or overestimating how smart I am and coming off arrogant.

0 out of 10, without an option to take the quiz. It just told me I got 0 out of 10. The quiz didn't even exist.

Your link doesn't seem to work. When I click it instead of asking questions, it asks me to post my 0/10 result on Facebook.

I got Colorado, but it was easy to identify because the other choices it gave were Kansas and New Hampshire.

10/10, but had they given Wyoming as a choice on the Colorado one, it would've been somewhat difficult.

Seriously though, these are questions no American should ever get wrong.  Comment as you will on the state of geography in schools.

What is interesting is the fact that most people do get them wrong out there. Yes for us its a no brainer, but then again we road geeks get dirty looks from non road geeks anyway just because we know that i-95 goes from ME to FL.

However, back in grade school I was taught things about the state that I lived in, New Jersey.  In addition to it being originally land occupied by the Lene Lenape Indian Tribe, we learned that the Garden State Parkway was almost 173 miles long and that we indeed had 21 counties as well as learn what their respected seats were.  I think now they have other things they teach them now as the demand for what students should know has changed over the years.

I wonder if the algorithm picks randomly, or is designed to not give both Colorado and Wyoming as answer possibilities whenever presenting a rectangular state drawing.

I wonder how many of us could do "identify the country".  I barely have any idea what Nauru looks like.

It's the tiny one with a giant hole in the middle.

First time I saw the title of this thread, I thought it would be easiest quiz I'd ever take in my life, being a road geek, but after reading some of the comments here, I thought about how states like Colorado & Wyoming would be hard to tell apart. Luckily nothing like that happened and I got a 10/10, as assumed.

Here's an "identify the country" quiz. I got 30/30 in the Americas with 1.7 seconds left (I'm not very quick with a laptop trackpad).

edit -- finished Europe with 0.6 seconds left. It's hard to accurately hit those damn tiny countries. Stupid Luxembourg.

I got 30/30 (I did Americas). But for the first 10 seconds I was confused and then realized I had to click the countries on the map LOL (I originally thought I would be typing the countries' names in for some reason) and finished with 6 seconds left.  :-D

We're bordering on "Celebrity Jeopardy"-level contests here.

I got 9/10.  I missed Colorado entirely because I just read your post and was looking for the little jog on the west border that wasn't there on the outline shown.  I was thinking it was the right aspect ratio for Colorado, but no little jog!

sammi

Colorado and Wyoming are the only ones I'm ever likely to confuse. The rest are easy. :)

Tried that as well, got 154/196. Completed Europe, and would have gotten both of the Americas had it not been for Suriname...

As a kid I had a puzzle of the US with foam pieces that could easily be shoved and scrunched a little. I used to occasionally intentionally put Colorado and Wyoming in each others' places on the map to see if anyone would notice.  :)

You could tell it was wrong doing the puzzle though since Colorado was slightly snug in Wyoming's spot and Wyoming was slightly loose in Colorado's.

Indeed, despite Colorado and Wyoming both occupying four degrees of latitude and seven degrees of longitude, Colorado is a good 5% larger in land area since it is further south and a degree of longitude gets you more space closer to the equator.
If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

triplemultiplex

Both Colorado and Wyoming are 4 degrees of latitude by 7 degrees of longitude, but Colorado is slightly wider than Wyoming due to the convergence of lines of longitude as one moves toward the poles.
This makes Wyoming appear more "square" in appearance and as long as someone's not playing games with the projection of the map, I can pick out the difference between the two every time.

Got 114/196 on my first try. Missed a lot of African and island nations.

english si

Got 194 first try, kicking myself about Timor-Leste, and annoyed that I missed El Salvador in my romp through Central America.

Also, Taiwan, but not Palestine?

As a sporcler whose got the World Traveler (1000 quizzes in Geography) and Around the World (all countries) badges, I'm annoyed.

That clicking one bugs me as you have to look in two places at once (the target to get, and the map).

agentsteel53

188.  not too bad.

missed the following 8:
* Lebanon (!) because I plain old didn't see it.
* Kosovo because apparently I've not watched the news more recently than 2011.  (also: didn't see it.)
* Saint Lucia because I had no idea it was independent.  I had guessed Saint Martin for the missing one between Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
* Solomon Islands because I had no idea they were independent.
* Marshall Islands, see above.
* Federated States of Micronesia because I just plain couldn't remember that they existed.
* Kiribati because I tried Christmas Island; yeah just a general oopsie there.
* Sao Tome and Principe (another one I just plain old forgot about).

so, to the citizens of those countries, I extend my apologies.  apparently my knowledge of Oceania is significantly worse than terrible; the Caribbean only mildly better; and Lebanon I really just plain old dorked up.
