So this thread is different from the one I made about the highways that begin from surface streets. I'm talking about stuff like this in Springfield, IL:

or this in Sacramento, CA:

or this one in Amherst, NY:

So are they stubs that couldn't be developed because of opposition or stubs waiting for future development? And if you have any can you post them?
What's not to like about highways and bridges, intersections and interchanges, rails and planes?

What's up with the interchange of the Avenue of the Saints with I-35 in northern Iowa? Was that expected to be a full cloverleaf at some point?
Keep right except to pass.  Yes.  You.
Visit scenic Orleans County, NY!

Anamosa Street in Rapid City and Benson Road is Sioux Falls. The development just hasn't got there yet.

The Phoenix area is filled with streets like these. They are mostly in the outer part of the metro area.
Though I think most of the ones here will eventually be extended, but I don't see that happening for these ones anytime soon:

Here is a former trumpet interchange at Wis 158/I-94 being constructed with a diamond interchange that allows for Wis 158 to be extended to the west in the future in Kenosha, WI.

Here is the US 151 and Wis 26 North Interchange in Waupun, WI.  There haven't been any official announcements on extending the road south but the interchange was built unusually large for a south extension.

I was meaning to post this some time ago but never got around to it.

If you can't read it, the sign text says "THIS STREET PLANNED TO BE EXTENDED" –which struck me as a somewhat unusual piece of information to communicate in this way. I took the picture from an Amtrak train stopped at the Martinez, CA station.

The street isn't shown on Google or Bing aerial photos–both of which show the parcel to be sort of a brownfield site of quonset huts and aging asphalt. Apple Maps photography shows that only the larger buildings remain and that this "street"  is actually a parking lot exit that will in the future connect to Berrellesa Street.

Yes.  IADOT proposed a Clear Lake bypass for US 18 at one point but never got around to it.

Chynoweth Avenue in San Jose has three distinct segments (and plans do exist for a bridge to connect at least two of them, though they don't seem to be happening in the immediate future) -

Oak Avenue Parkway is in two segments in Folsom with some of the right of way that would have connected them currently being used for a park https://www.google.com/maps/place/Oak+Ave+Pkwy,+Folsom,+CA+95630/@38.6832744,-121.1579665,2312m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x809ae410bc27693f:0x9f5cd137372bde2b

64th St has been open south of Loop 101 for a few months now, still leaving a stub to the north. The interchange is controlled by stop signs.

The last one, Willis Rd and 40th St in the Gila River Indian Community, will be extended in the next few years as the construction of the South Mountain Freeway starts. GRIC has plans for developing this area in the near future.

There are many stubs to the north of Loop 202 Red Mountain (Val Vista, Greenfield, Higley), though none of these are planned to go over the Salt River and connect with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community or SR-87.

I'd say that surface road stubs are more annoying than freeway/expressway ones.

East end of Zollinger Rd in Upper Arlington, Ohio is at the corner of farmland owned by The Ohio State University, and roughly in line with Ackerman Rd about a mile farther east. The "A—Z Connector" has been proposed in recent years, but due to NIMBYism from residents on the north side of the route, and confusion over which local governments want it built and/or have standing to propose it, MORPC dropped the proposal a few years ago. (I re-suggested it this year as part of the community input phase of developing the next iteration of the transportation plan.)
Wait, it's all Ohio? Always has been.

One street stub that I always thought had a planned stub was Airport Blvd in Los Angeles.

Airport Blvd is a north-south street about 1/2 mile east of Sepulveda.  South of La Tijera, it's a fairly important street leading to rental car agencies, and of course, the Airport.  (Before the 1960's the main terminal at LAX was reached right from Airport Blvd.  Now, all of the passenger terminals are west of Sepulveda and are reached by taking Airport to 96th or Century.)

North of La Tijera, Airport Blvd continues as a residential street ending at a cul de sac just north of 74th street.  The thing is -- even the residential part of Airport is fairly wide.  It seems as though Airport would have been a perfect street to connect north to the Howard Hughes center or maybe even toward Centinela.  But it seems that the neighbors did not want all the through traffic that an extension would bring, so it was never extended.

There are tons of them here in Huntsville in Research Park. There are a few others around the city as well.
It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

As part of a plan to construct a freeway from downtown St. Paul to the east along what was then MN-212, Minnesota DOT re-routed 212 from its routing along Stillwater Blvd. in Lake Elmo and constructed a new highway west from there to MN-120. There it stands; in the photo below, there is now a development at the intersection of 120 and former 212*, but at one time there was a stub where the highway would have continued across Maplewood to St. Paul, bending southwestward. As telling as the stub, consider that here a divided highway ends at a two-lane road.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Maplewood,+MN/@44.9975471,-92.9831904,598m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x52b2d4817ee3ae11:0x8dcdacaf7dbdee8d

To appreciate the magnitude of the rerouting, here's the map that shows how the rerouting eliminated a straight route along 212 from St. Paul into Lake Elmo, and put a jog in it along 120 that would have been temporary, except that the connecting highway into St. Paul was never built.

*212 was redesignated as MN-5 in the 1980s, and recently the segment east of MN-120 was turned back to Washington County.

Bruce R. Watkins Drive (US 71) between 87th St and Swope Parkway.  It's built with a very wide median for those three intersections (to allow for any possible conversion to interchanges).  Unfortunately, I-49 won't be extended past the Triangle any time soon.

In Lenexa/Olathe, Ridgeview Rd was recently converted into a DDI over K-10. There are now proposals to extend Ridgeview north to Prairie Star Parkway. I personally oppose this proposal due to caves being near by, and this is a residential district (I live not too far from this area). The proposal includes building indoor soccer fields in this area along what would be Ridgeview Rd north.

The I-990 example listed by OP was intended to continue to CR 299 a short distance north. It was canceled for environmental reasons. In all honesty, unless CR 299 gets widened, an extension would make traffic in the area worse than it already is.

Poinciana Boulevard in Kissimmee, FL dead ends at the WB Osceola Parkway off ramp for FL 535.  The road was made two ways, but only SB Poinciana is currently being used north of FL 535.  I do not know if they ever will extend it northward in this century, but its supposed to connect with International Drive in Orlando if they ever build it.  In fact an empty underpass sits on FL 417 east of FL 535 to allow for it to cross under it.

From the original post: Airport Boulevard in Sacramento has had a proposal for a southward extension to south Natomas though I don't know if that is going to happen anytime soon.

In Roseville/Citrus Heights, I've often wondered what the deal with the incomplete North Cirby Way is:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/N+Cirby+Way+%26+Samoa+Way,+Roseville,+CA+95661/@38.7299484,-121.2478745,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x809ae01c6458112f:0x85dcaaf399e46ade

Elverta Road looks like it is supposed to eventually end at Antelope Road in Antelope, but the final easternmost block has yet to be constructed:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Antelope,+CA+95843/@38.70552,-121.3515504,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x809b20aaffd04c5b:0x8549c5f3d5cdc2b5

Los Angeles's Whitnall Highway (through the San Fernando Valley) is a 1930s example of this concept (planned thoroughfare never completed to full extent) and in Chicago, Ogden Avenue's furthest extension has been cut back and closed over time.

This is Olery St and Union Pacific Street in Missoula's Northside area. There was supposed to be a street to connect Mullan Road, but a lot of pushback between county officials, citizens and contractors left this roundabout virtually pointless.

This is 87th Street Parkway just west of Renner Boulevard in Lenexa, Kansas.

It's the somewhat infamous Lenexa City Center project. There are stubs for Winchester Ave, Elmridge St, Penrose Ln, and I believe Harbinger St (the easternmost unnamed street).
