Has anyone ever attempted to wash one of the florescent safety vests? I rescued one from the side of the road yesterday, but it has lots of road grime on it.

No tags for cleaning instructions? That's weird...most safety gear has it.

Yes, I have a few and have to wash them from time to time (dirt, sweat).  You wash them as any other clothing in the washer.  However, you will need to hang them or lay them flat to dry.  Drying in the dryer can ruin the reflectivity of the vest.

From mine: "Do not store in direct sunlight.  Do not wash or dry with sharp edged items.  Do not commercial launder, use bleach or iron.  Wash darks separately.  Turn inside out to launder.  Use mild detergent, cold water, no fabric softener.  Tumble dry low or hang to dry."

Like I'm going to do a separate load just for sharp-edged items.  Really.

Why would I put knives in a clothes washer anyway? ;)

What a strange way to clean a knife. Does it sharpen it as well?
Pleased to meet you

I have one.  Just wash it normally.  Cold or Warm water; Dry Low/Cool setting.  My tag says it can be washed a maximum of 25 times.

Does it have any logos on it? Or is it a generic one like you can buy at Walmart?
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Generic. I figure it's AHTD or OG&E, but there's no identifying info. All I need is a hard hat and I'm ready for next Halloween ;)

You can probably wash it normally. Whether or not you can dry it depends on the vest.

Not a problem if I have to hang dry: half my SCA stuff is hang dry.I just wanted to see how mch of the grime I could get out of it, then maybe save it for when I have to change a tire.

My employer issued safety vest has the following washing instructions:

Max 25 cycles
Do Not Bleach
Tumble Dry low
Do not iron
Do not dry clean

Washed mine for the first time: some of the stains remain. I did a hang dry on it, like I do most of my SCA stuff. May start using it while I'm chasing bridges.
