At least New York has some options (until I-990).  Illinois is out (last one was I-474) unless someone can come up with an old photo of IL-594 soon.

I think there's at least one MD state route that is just an unused slab of concrete that got bypassed when an intersection was realigned.

There are several of these but AFAIK the only other one of these that is signed is this one:

There is a separate MD 591 segment on the other side of the creek (signed N-S) but it at least connects to another county road and you can actually get somewhere else without ever having to come back to US 1.

That's okay.  NC DOT once put a 55 mph speed limit sign at the end of a road in Johnston County.

Actually, that sign was not removed when construction of a freeway resulted in the road becoming a dead end. I've been there, done that, and taken a picture.
Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.
