For example, at the CIA–the Culinary Institute of America, that is–pedestrian crossing signs have been modified to feature a chef's toque. From The Seattle Times:

Challenge: Post signs that have been crammed into a location where space is very tight.

Also, how are we coming with the highest-numbered state highway sub-Challenge? Which states remain outstanding?

We have AL, AK, AR, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, MA, MD, MI, MN, NY, PA, RI, VT, VA, WV, and WY.

To be clear, we need AZ, CO, HI, ID, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MS, MO, MT, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NM, NC, ND, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, WA, & WI.

I'm surprised no one has posted WI, CO, AZ, ND, SD or IA yet.

IA-471 is the highest-numbered route that is signed by the DOT (and I have no pictures of it), but there are 900-series routes that are unsigned by the DOT. However, the city of Coralville added these to the intersection of the otherwise unsigned IA-965 and US-6:

Edit to add that I believe this is the highest-numbered remaining 900-series Iowa highway, so I think this actually meets the requirements of the challenge.

Here's Hawaii's highest-numbered signed route (there are three 89xx routes with higher numbers but no route markers):

Anybody got anything for today's actual Challenge? ;-)

March 14, 2017:  Post any pictures you have of warning signs showing an intersection with an unusual configuration.

(Anything besides a 3-way, T-intersection, 4-way, angled 3-way, angled 4-way, opposing offset side roads, 3-way with railroad, or 4-way with railroad)

This is on US43 southbound approaching Mobile, AL.  I'll probably post more examples tomorrow.

Well, it remains open until we get a submission for it. :-)

So, for those of you stuck at home with a snow day, you've got three active Challenges to keep you busy:
—the duly-posted Challenge for March 14th (unusual intersection warning signs),
—the unfinished Challenge from March 13th (crammed-in signs), and
—the ongoing side Challenge (highest signed state routes).

Personal opinion emphasized here--the last two challenges that didn't get any response were unsuccessful because the guidelines were too vague and easy to satisfy.  Make sure you hone in on what exactly it is you're looking for.  Signs are usually packed together so they're adjacent without overlap, so this isn't a hard thing to look for--are you looking for sign assemblies where the panels overlap?

That's the idea. The game always advances, even when there's something outstanding. A single response will close the March 13 Challenge, and I'm prepared to do it myself, though I prefer to give others a chance.

If people aren't clear what the Challenge is, they can certainly ask for clarification. I don't recall that anyone did, so I figured people just didn't have pictures, or happened not to read the forum as much on certain days, or what have you.

At the same time, the idea is to allow for a fair amount of interpretation, because the game is about encouraging a variety of content, not restricting it. So if you've got something that seems to fit, go ahead and post it. Even if it's not what originally inspired the idea, I often see submissions that I wouldn't have thought of for a particular Challenge.

This would have been even better if 22 went over 7 on the ramps in the picture.  Here it looks like 7 goes over 22, which would be more appropriate for 1/pi day.
