Lowest-numbered route you haven't been on

US 89

I've been on OK 102 where it concurs with I-40, but my main claim to that number is Utah 102 (which I've clinched). It's fairly easy to grab some of as it forms part of the I-15 and I-84 business loops in Tremonton, though 102 itself doesn't directly interchange with 15.

Geography of where roadgeeks live is a huge factor.  If you live way out west you might struggle to get the <10 numbers.

Yeah, most of my very low numbers are largely from places in the eastern half of the US. If you live in a place like Arizona, even most of the smaller 2 digit routes could be quite hard to grab.

Per Wikipedia, there is only one current primary 511 in the lower 48 (OH 511).  Some people might count state-wide secondary systems such as NJ and FL having 511s.  I'm guessing most people would not count the very well posted full-shielded Virginia secondary routes, which would enable both Oscar and me to run up the number line quite easily once either of us reaches 600.

Oscar, if you reading this, OH 511 is only 35 miles from Public Square (Cleveland) and 25 miles from the western extent of the roadtour I'm presenting at the end of this month...if you want to change your mind about attending the Cleveland meet.

I would get stuck in the high 80s and 90s, since AFAIK there's no road numbered 87 anywhere in Spain (Maybe in Badajoz province, which is far from reach for me).

Looks like I'll get a change to snag that elusive 18 in early September.

As a side note, I got a 101 recently :sombrero:. No 102, though.

Either that or someone like the TxDOT Farm-to-Market Road Program Director is going to join and then we're all going to have to get to 3551 or something.

Oh, Scott...  Surely you knew you couldn't post something like that without my replying...

There's a decent chance the TxDOT Farm-to-Market Road Program Director wouldn't even hit four digits.

Texas hasn't had a highway numbered 948 in more than three decades, with FM-948 having been decommissioned in 1990.  However, according to Wikipedia, it hadn't been signed since 1956, and the cancellation order in 1990 was more of a clean-up formality than anything.

As for neighboring states, LA-948 is just a two-block connector southeast of Baton Rouge.

--The mode of our dataset is 2, with seven roadgeeks stuck down there, but we also have another secondary peak of five roadgeeks that are stuck at 102 (get thee to Acadia National Park, thou stuck roadgeeks).

Or Lincoln or Pottawatomie counties in OK. OK-102 is a fairly painless clinch close in to the OKC metro. It also concurs with I-40 if you're in it for the easy pickup for this thread (but not the other one). It even connects with old US-66 on the north end so you can touch it as part of a 66 trip.

Yet another option is to go to the Jacksonville FL airport.  The access road to the airport is FL 102, which is how I got my 102.  Somehow I missed getting ME 102 when I was at Acadia back in 2019.

I am expecting to get VA/WV 102 to straighten out that one.

Sadly, I cannot count my fictional VA 511 in Prince George County (part of fictional maps if it all turned into suburbia).  Of course, PA has 512, 513, 514, 516, 518, and 519 after 511.

The biggest factor is just that it takes so long to drive to another state.  If you live in western MA, say, you can be in 7 or 8 different states in the time that it takes me to get to my closest bordering state.  Lots more options when you just have more states around you in general.

I noticed that. Indeed, I was recently in northern Ohio, on US 250, and drove past the OH 511 intersection (and photographed the route marker) without thinking to turn off to cover part of OH 511.

But even if I'd claimed a 511 that way, I'm also missing 512. There isn't one in Ohio, but there are in two neighboring states. After that, I'm missing 517, 523, 532, and more I haven't identified. So just getting past 511 doesn't get me very far, unless I stumble into a treasure trove of 5xx routes like the one in Mississippi and Louisiana that helped me get into the 500s.

See, I'm stuck on 101. Next time I'm driving towards Lake Charles I could get a piece of LA 101 and hit I-10 the next exit down. I just rarely drive that way or even to Houston. I'd be able to jump up quite a few I think.

Taking a three-day vacation to western Maryland, I snagged MD 135, which was my lowest numbered route not traveled.  Also made sure to get PA 160 for future use (gotta plan ahead sometimes!).

My lowest number not traveled is now 142.

There is a VA 142 near Petersburg that is probably the closest, which I can get, along with VA 149 and VA 153 next time I'm in that part of the state.  The next "pain-in-the-ass" number for me is probably 148.  Probably VA 148 at Fancy Gap may be my best bet.

Why did they renumber AS-18 to AS-II? Now I'm still stuck at 18. Hopefully I can grab one next Sunday...

Lowest interstate I haven't been on is I-2. Lowest US Route I haven't been on is US-2. Both are very far from anywhere I've lived.

I went down to Hugo to clinch OK-93 last night (also grabbing nearby-ish 98 while I was at it), so that puts me at 97. I've crossed under OK-97 before, and my 2019 Port Aransas trip intersected TX-97, but I've never been on either of them. But the most frustrating thing is, whereas in most other states MO-97/I-44 would be a concurrency, for some reason MO routed 97 down the frontage road. Aargh!

How would a concurrency even work there?  The southbound part doesn't even have an interchange.
