This is the sub we've all been waiting for!
(if one already exists it can be merged).

In this Topic people can post the billboards they know that are in bad spots to look at while driving.

Ex: Google Earth Link
https://earth.app.goo.gl/sYtpHt #googleearth

Even from far back it's still a bad spot & its on a curve in tight area prone to traffic, they couldn't have picked a better spot for a billboard.

Now, and here I thought a billboard people can actually see from the road is bad placement.

The Google Earth links in both your posts are bad.

Not clear what is the issue with the billboards in both posts, other than that the billboard in the first post is probably intended for drivers on another road.

The first one is definitely intended for I-95 & you have to really look awkwardly to see it. I drive that route almost everyday.

& when you say bad do you mean the links are broken or they are bad in regards to what im asking

How do you know which road the billboard is aimed at, or that there isn't some other road that gets a better view of the billboard?

I wonder why Google earth links act so wacky & the only other highway is 476 & the ramps would only be able to really see it. But that defeats the purpose of the billboard.

What is the policy regarding billboards adjacent to freeways? Here in the UK there are only a handful and they have attracted criticism due to distraction.

There are other highways near the I-95/I-476 interchange, most notably US 13. It doesn't help that, with the broken links, you can't tell exactly where the Google Earth image was taken.

I think you just need to remove everything before the https and everything after (and including) the %20. It still tells me that Google Earth isn't installed, so I'm not sure.

Here is GMSV from slightly further back.  I'm not seeing much wrong with this placement...  https://goo.gl/maps/oVgozux956kpFnfg7

You can also see it just fine from the flyover - https://goo.gl/maps/3ED4onub3vs4vgb18

Not sure if it's a placement law but Wisconsin has some placed so far away from the road it's difficult or impossible to read what exit the business is off of or any other details about it. One is for Wendy's in Menomonie on eastbound I-94. There used to be a billboard for Perkins nearby that one that faced perpendicular to the road where you had to turn your head 90 degrees to read it.

It's up to state and local regulation. Policies vary widely.

These sideways billboards along I-95 in Virginia are 800 feet from the right lane - https://goo.gl/maps/cF4ffS8Yj9KyJfUL7 - and I have no trouble seeing these.

This is 800 ft from the billboard in question at 95-476 - https://goo.gl/maps/QCtrRSGrjbdmrDEx7

Per this website - https://pipsignworks.com/sign-visibility-simple-rules-for-getting-noticed/ - 800 ft is visible with 24" letters which on a standard 14' tall billboard is 1/7 the height of the billboard which is not that hard to do.  Plus it is still plenty visible for people on the flyover.

Meanwhile, AFAIK, Maine and Vermont don't allow for billboard advertising along their interstates.

I sometimes wonder if billboard advertising is up to the state or town here in Connecticut. A great example is I-84 in Waterbury, between the CT Route 8 exits east to the Cheshire town line. The line of tall and giant billboards (some electronic) literally stop at that point. You don't see any again until at least the next town (Southington, in Hartford County).

There was once an unintended connection of billboards in the Milford, CT area of I-95. I want to to say they were for:

A V.I.P. place for adult toys and lingerie, etc.
Five Guys
A touring exhibit for the late Princess Diana which was at Foxwoods at the time.  :wow:

With yours I can make out the Wendy's part but not the next exit, I readjusted it a little bit to see if I could make it out this is the best shot I got https://www.google.com/maps/@44.9192638,-92.0321222,3a,15y,131.2h,94.54t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sWkAW1Urhuv5OyPPwkZEoIQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

And it's right in the area I thought it was in too. I've seen several signs that far of a distance off the highway in Wisconsin it's strange.

Big John

The billboards are off to a good distance on the Indiana Toll Road  Thus the signs and letters are big to remain visible.

For the first one, if I'm in a car there I'm seeing that billboard before the bridge.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.8671109,-75.3442747,3a,75y,30.19h,79.42t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sFC_xFUXux2VfPu1uOj41Jw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

For the second one, that's perfect that's probably the ramp they are trying to get you to view it from.
