When I was growing up in the 2 or 3 years leading up to 1976, there was so much hype about the nation's Bicentennial.  TV shows and specials were being created, signs going up (at least in Ohio) designating "Bicentennial Communities" at their city limits, and so on.

Fast forward to today, and little over 7 months away from our country's 250th Birthday (another significant milestone IMHO), and I have heard little to no information on plans for an extended celebration like they did in 1976.

The fact that Google search defaults to dark mode in incognito window on Chrome (yeah, I'm one of those people who does all searches in incognito because I don't like saved history/customized results).  I don't like the "dark mode for everything" trend that's all the rage these days (not to mention that it being too dark too everywhere for my tastes is one of my annoyances with Chrome).  Sure, there's a setting to change it, but since this involves incognito windows, that doesn't matter since the cookie the setting change is stored in won't be returned the next day.

Also, the universe seems to have a hard-on for people calling me at my end of the day bathroom stop, because it happened again yesterday.  Maybe I need to start carrying my phone with me into the bathroom.

I think that type of patriotism would be seen as hokey now.

Same here.  And we musicians all had in-ear monitors.

That's probably due to the fact that over the last fifty years, due to the Internet making it easy to talk to people who live in other countries, a lot of the inhabitants of the United States have come to the realization that it kind of sucks.

Out of curiosity...do you wear glasses? I've done informal polling among my friends regarding light/dark mode preference and there is a correlation between people who wear glasses preferring dark mode and those without preferring light mode.

In any event, you are apt to hate Button Copy 2.0 whenever I get around to finishing it. Sorry in advance.

I don't know who's calling you, but I really really don't want my conversation with anyone to have bathroom sounds in the background.

I'm a glasses person who prefers light mode, for what it's worth.

I have glasses, but I seldom wear them since I can't stand having something on my face for a long time.  Normally I wear contact lenses.

As for dark mode, I don't necessarily mind dark designs, it's just the monochrome of black/brown that pervades modern implementations is like being hit in the retina with a sledgehammer.  My laptop actually uses a dark theme for the main interface (although I keep the applications in light mode) and my own website uses a dark palate.  I seem to recall that the original theme for the forum (before Button Copy) was a dark theme as well.  I only started to sour on Chrome's when the went so far as to make all the menus dark (causing problems with any favicon that assumed a light background in the process) and made it impossible to differentiate tabs (which Linux Mint has sadly copied, but dark vs. light won't help that).

Directions for microwaving food when they say how LONG to microwave it but not their test microwave's wattage.  That's about as useful as telling how many minutes to bake your cookies, but not what temperature to bake them at.

No glasses, dark mode all day everyday. But FWIW I have something close to 20/40 vision, so dark mode helps me with things that are closer.

I wear glasses, but I usually set my computers, phone, and tablet to time-of-day based light/dark mode (sunset/sunrise based on location or fixed geo-coordinates, or at set fixed times), so on those devices, light for day and dark at night for me. I sometimes don't wear my glasses for reading things close.

When time-of-day light/dark mode settings aren't available, I usually just default on dark mode, like I did full time on all devices when available prior to 2022.

I guess you could randomly say annoying things "on your phone" and if the other talker has a problem, just say: "hey, I'm on the phone here!"

On the rare occasions I actually talk to Indian scammers these days, I do enjoy making them listen to me pee and then flush.  Just don't take the word 'enjoy' wrong in that sentence...

I, uh, had a friend who basically did the same thing once, but without the flushing, and it was on the other... end. The scammer on the phone was gagging.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think my wife was in the car at the time for that one.

When larger packages of items have a higher per-unit cost than smaller ones (e.g. 12-packs of soda being $5 each and a 24-pack being $11). This seems to happen a lot at WinCo, but fortunately they usually print a per-ounce or per-unit price on the price tag so it's easier to get the better deal.
