Very sad. I know there are well-educated fans who consider more modern players like Messi as the best ever. But Pelé was the greatest ever when I was younger and an amazing ambassador for the game. I remember it being huge when he was well past his prime and played MSL in the US. It was big news and he was probably still the best player in the league.

Pelé set his records in an era of harder balls, worse sports medicine, and much harsher tackles. If he was playing in the modern era, he might have set those records once again.
