Like Facebook, where they got Love, Care, Haha, Wow, Sad, and Angry, AARoads should provide options for reacting on other posts. Like provide emoticons at the top of the post (like :pan: or :bigass:) and then it will automatically add a reaction to the post.
Not sure if SMF allows this. GitHub also has this feature as well.
Just suggesting, if this is feasible.

The "like" function already exists.  We probably don't need that, and we certainly don't need any other reaction types.  We even recently had a thread about which emoticons we like the least.

hotdogPi

I oppose this. Some emojis, like ❌, can be used as essentially a dislike button, and anything resembling a dislike button will cause me and probably many others to post a lot less. I can also see people abusing the emojis in heated debates.

While I do feel like there could be reaction granularity here once in a blue moon, the fact that this was suggested by the person who likes to substitute random words in posts with smilies makes me inclined to be opposed to this.

I don't see the point. We had a thread about ten years ago regarding whether the forum should have a "like" button. The comments I made back then continue to reflect my opinion today, so I'll quote them here. In addition to the points made below, I would add that another forum of which I am a member used to have a feature conceptually similar to a "dislike" button and it caused problems that eventually led to the moderators removing it. I think hotdogPi makes a valid point about some smileys being able to function as a "dislike" button. (There is already a thumbs-down smiley as it is.) I also think there is a further problem of people interpreting smileys in different ways that can cause problems when someone understands it in a way other than what was intended. I've seen that happen on a neighborhood forum.

Quote from: 1995hoo on January 14, 2014, 09:43:23 AMI really don't like the idea of a "dislike" button. I think if you disagree with someone's comment enough to be motivated to give some indication of it, you should give a reason why you feel that way (preferably more than just "yawn" or "fuck you," but then, if someone posts that sort of reply, it just damages his own credibility).

I don't really see much reason for "like" or "dislike" buttons because I don't think it's hard to assess the value of a post. It's sort of like perusing the reviews on Amazon.com when considering whether to buy a product. They do let people vote on whether reviews are helpful, but I don't need the vote count because I think it's easy to determine which reviews are useful and which are written by grade-school kids as a school assignment. Plus, the people who vote something helpful might be doing so for reasons that are of little interest to you (an example might be if somebody's review focuses on why a stereo component is convenient to operate but doesn't discuss sound quality–if your focus is on the sound, that review won't help you).

You might be misunderstanding the definition of a forum.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/forum

If people are liking my posts, I'm not aware of it.

You can always respond with a symbol or emoticon of your choosing if you insist on adding to the discussion with something that doesn't add to the discussion.

We could just explain our feelings and reactions to posts with more words.

....

The "Alerts" feature up at the top of the screen tells you who liked your posts (if you click on it, of course, which I don't generally do but did once to see what the "alert" was).

This is extremely ironically one of the few posts you've ever made that I actually dislike. I have strong distaste for the assumptions that (a) your posts will get a lot of dislikes and (b) getting dislikes is a major deterrent from posting.

I know we have occasional arguments/debates on here, and you'd have to expect dislikes if you're taking a stance on one side of a controversial subject, but in everyday conversation, the majority of posts are not reacted to at all. If a dislike here or there is going to offend you, the Internet isn't for you. And if you are concerned about the content of your posts leading to dislikes, why would you post something that you think is going to get dislikes? If you really believe that it will, that should cause you to ask why you are posting it to begin with.

Broadly speaking, I agree that "like" is the most useful reaction. Any other reaction can be made just as clearly with a normal reply - that's what the emojis above the post preview box are for.

There's something Shakespearean about this post, like Iago saying, "But he that filches from me my good name Robs me of that which not enriches him And makes me poor indeed."

Some of us wouldn't mind going for the most dislikes.  :bigass:

That discussion actually wasn't his fault at all and did not contribute to his ban. He was banned for one single comment a few days afterward: that he wasn't interested in real roads and hadn't been for about a month.

What steered him into the final descent was mentioning he'd liked to see someone lick a toilet bowl.  The post got deleted/hidden but a ton of us complained about him leading up to the "I don't like roads" thing.  I tend to see the toilet bowl incident as the larger contributor to the eventual downfall.

I come here because this place isn't facebook. I think most of us do.

Irony being that many of us are on Facebook road groups also.  Aside from Buc-ee's fandom there tends to be less weird stuff that happens out there (like P13).
