Is it ok to be mostly active in one board?

I've noticed that most of my posts are in Fictional and General Highway Talk/Traffic Control. Is it recommended you generally be active around the forum and its wide variety of boards or is it fine to just keep your posts in what topics you are interested in. It doesn't seem to be too problematic as I know of one user who is quite fond of the fictional board it hasn't seem to have gotten in much trouble. Just wondering if this is something that highly acceptable or frowned upon by the forumbase.

Just to be honest, those that ONLY hang out on the fictional board tend to get a little bit of disdain, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest as I rarely post over there.

As long as your posts are consistently thoughtful, I don't think anyone cares which boards you spend the most time in.

Ok! I'll continue posting where I typically post then  :bigass:

I think most people are generally only active in General, Off-Topic, and whichever regional board corresponds to where they live. I know any time I check in on Mountain West or Mid-South I see a ton of users I don't normally see elsewhere.

Do try to avoid ensconcing yourself in the Fictional board, though; that's meant to be a bonus board for people who are here to discuss the real world and just want to have a little side place to throw out ideas.

The main way to miff other participants I can think of is to persistently post topics or posts of questionable value and be insistent that such are better than they are, rather than bring somehow strategic about which forums one participates in.

For rather obvious reasons, there's certainly nothing wrong with not participating in regional boards for which you have nothing meaningful to offer, say if you are unfamiliar with a particular part of the country.

Just avoid being the next P13 and MMM, you'll probably be fine.

Well, FritzOwl seems to ensconce himself in the Fictional board, and he doesn't seem to be getting into any controversy with the users or the staff anytime soon. I'm not saying I don't appreciate FritzOwls... additions to the forum.

Eh, he's hijacked many a fictional thread that had promise.  He might not be part of the problem now, but he definitely was for a long time.

He was controversial initially because he'd post his ideas in every thread he came across.  Once the "FritzOwl in one thread" thread was created and he put all his stuff in there (both allowing those interested to see the bigger picture without loading a bunch of threads and keeping his stuff away from other people's ideas), that went away.

I would suggest not taking this as a reason to think emulating him is okay.

Very true.  My work travels over the past couple of years have taken me to lots of varied places around the country, such as the Bay Area, St. Louis, Chicago, Central Ohio, and most recently New York City.  Not to mention more regular work assignments in Hampton Roads and Charlotte.  Most of the time, I'm lucky if I work close to home once a year.

But anyway, when I'm visiting a different area, I will try to read up on the applicable regional board, and if I can't find an answer to a question I might have about something, I'll ask it.  Learned a lot about the Denver area that way, where I worked a few years ago and where one of my step-sisters used to live before she moved to NC.

When I was a kid, as I'm sure many of us did, I fantasized about having certain roads in certain places.  But as I've gotten older, I've found that I don't really have thoughts like that anymore.  So I almost never participate in the Fictional boards.

I at least look at what threads are being posted in every board every day, but how much I actually read varies by how interested I am in a given region.
