Quote from: Rothman on May 12, 2025, 10:07:51 PMMakes me wonder what I'd save from the forum.  Truth be told, I'm not so sure if anything.

Anything dealing with that one night at band camp.

I'd imagine there's a lot of info on the forum that hasn't (yet) been ported over to the wiki or other websites yet. Plus, I generally find it easier to search on this forum than within groups on Facebook.
It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

I seem to recall claims that all the bots are from Hong Kong.  Is there a way to block all of Hong Kong from making GET requests to the forum?

Seems that the 404 errors Alex was talking about off forum got resolved.

Good to have the forum back, hope the bots are being kept at bay successfully.

When I'm using an incognito window and get that message before even getting to the login page, I know it's not to be taken literally.

I'm still seeing functionality issues, but I don't know if they're part of the problem or part of the fix.  Quoting multiple posts at once like this, for example, took some creativity on my part, presumably because of the multiple requests it required.

I am occasionally encountering a 502 error, but it comes back to normal on the next try.

I'm getting that error if I click a link in the "Recent Posts" list, but then if I go into the appropriate subforum and open the thread everything displays correctly.

Edited to add: I also just got that error when I clicked the "New" button next to a thread.

I think it's still getting banged on. :(

You can thank James (rickmastfan67) for a lot of these improvements, as he worked on straightening out the mods/packages and some of the SMF customizations that we had in place before (that I did not have in my copies of the SMF files).

We just got 2 spammers bumping inactive threads using a foreign language.

I clicked the "Report to moderators" button on both of them. I hope nobody clicks the links those "users" posted. I didn't do so, of course, but I have no reason to think those links are anything other than nefarious.

I reported a post this morning (maybe one of those noted here) that was advertising for a certain enhancement product. Didn't have to click on anything as the poster so helpfully (and stupidly?) put the name of the product in the link and post.

There are at least three, all but two of which have been deleted. Two are active, and the post below was made before the post time of either active spam message. I did not see the one Rothman was referring to.

They are from different accounts; the two active ones are both one-post users.

Quote from: Rothman on May 20, 2025, 07:57:27 AMAll things considered, seems to be running pretty smoothly now, despite the surprising Russsian spam account showing up. :D

Yeah, registrations got turned back on when Alex brought the forum back up online and we didn't realize it.  Amazed it took this long for the bots to figure it out.  It's back off till I can get a mod working for it.

Looks like there may be one more new "user" who registered today but has not posted yet and whose profile has a link to a website with what I presume is a Czech domain name.

Got it before it could do any damage.
