There are too few colors of road striping.  Make a new list with more stripe colors and what they should mean.

For each of CMYK, establish 10 levels of intensity. This creates a 10,000-color colorspace. Each of America's 10,000 largest cities are assigned one of these colors, which is then used in lieu of a control city. Every road thus has double lines, with the one closest to you belonging to your direction of travel.

Travelers can discover the meaning of each color by following the line and seeing what city it leads to.

Though impractical and not useful to those with colorblindness; I...don't hate it.

Well, I simplified it slightly. There will only be colors assigned to the 9,999 largest cities in America. The 10,000th color, a shade of lime green, will be assigned to a city of 2,043 along a freeway in the center part of the country.

Let's include a small town in Kentucky, and its line can be yellow (and made of bricks) for easy following

What Interstate highways should be widened to 6 lanes?

All of them. So no 2 trucks can ever clog things up with micro-passing - even if there's very low truck traffic. And don't let me get started on RV's!

Toilets. Encouraging people to deal with such matters in the car while commuting will improve workplace productivity by eliminating the need to "pay a visit" upon arrival at the office.

If carpools are effective at reducing traffic congestion, what other bodies of water should we try?

Fords.

Sensors will detect when traffic congestion increases above a certain threshold.  At that point, valves will automatically open in hydrants positioned alongside the highway.  Water will then fill the fords.

This will reduce traffic congestion because, as traffic slows down for the water crossing and the tailback extends to the previous interchange, more and more drivers will divert onto the intersecting highway instead of continuing on the congested one.

Once traffic congestion has dropped below a certain threshold, drains in the pavement will open up and the water will drain out.
