New Jersey Population

I saw a video on social media pointing out how NJ is the most densely populated state, but also despite its population it has no cities over 1 million in population.

It was an interesting video despite the reason is obvious, as the Garden State has way too many incorporated municipalities.  In fact if the state were to annex Staten Island, which would surpass Newark in residents, New Jersey still would not have a city ( or corporation) over 1 million.

Even to consolidate one county to one coterminous city/ county government wouldn't create a municipality over 1 million either.  Bergen is most populous with close to 950,000 so uniting all 72 corporations into one unified government  would still fall short of a million.

So its fascinating that New Jersey with its dense population could never have an entity totalling to 1 million people.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

Didn't we have a thread already about saying something nice about New Jersey?

New Jersey is interesting because it's largely comprised of the outer areas of the NYC and Philly metro areas (plus the shore).  So it's very developed, but that development is largely oriented around major urban centers in adjacent states.

I feel like New Jersey's relatively small size as a state when it comes to land area also very much helps the density.
May or may not be batticorn.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

I'm not even sure how much the one (density) has to do with the other (cities over 1 million) to begin with.

For example, I imagine that Texas is laughing:  home to four of the eleven US cities with more than 1 million population (most recent estimates), but only the 23rd most densely populated state.

Also, none of the six most densely populated states has any cities over 1 million.  New Jersey is hardly unique in that respect.  Heck, the sixth most densely populated state doesn't even have any cities over 100k.

#1 NJ — Newark, 311k
#2 RI — Providence, 190k
#3 MA — Boston, 675k
#4 CT — Bridgeport, 148k
#5 MD — Baltimore, 568k
#6 DE — Wilmington, 70k
#7 FL — Jacksonville, 1.0m

I'll take you out to some counties out West Texas where there are more cows than people. Almost anything west of I-35 is emptying out rapidly.

Which would only further prove my point, I suppose.

Interestingly there are three cities in New Jersey that have a population density than even New York City. But if you separate Manhattan in its own Manhattan itself is the densest part of the US.

Heres one thats also interesting Friendship Heights Village, Maryland happens to get that status as most densest populated area in the US.

Yes and the entire state of New Jersey has the same amount of people as Los Angeles county.
