Dedication ceremony trinkets

I don't believe we have a thread for this kind of thing:

I wonder if the ceremonial ribbon will be creatively snipped whenever the bridge actually opens?

I have a section of ceremonial ribbon used at the Fort McHenry Tunnel opening. Scissors were used to give everybody a ~12 inch section. It was red, white and blue ribbons about 3 inches wide each and sewed together.

But what makes that snipping "creative?"  As far as snipping goes that seems pretty standard.

It was a creative thing to do for the audience, something I didn't expect.

Every significant road dedication ceremony I've been to has included trinkets of some kind.  When I went down to the Centennial Corridor dedication ceremony Caltrans D6 gave away all sorts of things.  I have most of them on display in my garage.

The item I liked the most from the Centennial Corridor dedication ceremony was the keychain rings.  They display CA 58 and 99 shields which thought was a nice touch for attendees.

If I remember correctly, I got an I-40 beer koozie from the realignment in Oklahoma City. Not being the sort of person who uses beer koozies, I don't remember what I did with it.

During my time of unemployment, I have scanned and shredded about 15 pounds worth of documents. My ticket for the bridge opening was part of that.

I can't believe it's been 10 years now since the SR 520 bridge opening.


Either they didn't give anything like this out at the SR 99 tunnel opening, or I just can't find it right now. But I do have a chunk of concrete from the viaduct (obviously from a while after the tunnel opening, since the viaduct was still standing at that point).

They did hand out those chunks a few months later at the viaduct project office. I got one as well!

But the best trinkets are from light rail openings: commemorative ORCA cards, Boop mascot plushies, so many stickers, custom lanyards and keychains, even some challenge coins.

I also got a couple of the cast-iron junction box covers from the lighting system, but that's less "trinket" than it is "it was all coming down anyway so ODOT didn't really care that I took it".
