I accept and respect your identity as long as it's not dumb shit like "identifying as a vaccinated attack helicopter".

That is some epic aurora borealis. I've seen a couple impressive displays in the UP of Michigan, but nothing like that.

being right under them is awesome.  I don't think I've ever seen them from the lower 48; maybe I did as a kid and do not remember, but the first time I decided to seek them out, I went to Alaska.  Subsequent trips have been Norway, Iceland, Yukon, Quebec, and now Northwest Territories.

Man, that is INCREDIBLE.  Great pictures on what must've been a great trip.  I've always been fascinated with the NWT ever since finding them in an old road atlas as a kid and intrigued how few roads go up there.

Did you drive it from SD, or fly north and rent a car?

thanks!

I flew into Edmonton and rented a car from there.

here are photos from the first half of day 2.  I took so many photos (over 1500!) on day 2 that I split the batch.

I wonder if that NWT bridge is going to be open when I get there in the spring...

I do not believe so.  Wikipedia says "fall 2012" while the ferry operator told me "probably the summer".
