When first designed, a fourth eastbound lane was originally intended to extend east through the Townline Road interchange and terminate just north of Little Lake about 1km east of the Townline Road bridge.  When they completed the widening however, the MTO elected to leave that fourth lane closed -- the fourth lane exits at Townline Road -- and we are left with the extra wide eastbound shoulder we see in these photos.

Two views looking south along Highway 6 (the Hanlon Expressway) towards the future Wellington Road 34 overpass and Highway 401 interchange south of Guelph.  A new mid-block interchange opened north of Wellington Road 34 and Laird Road last autumn, and work is ongoing to construct a new overpass that will carry through Wellington Road 34 traffic over Hwy 6:

[Great Lakes Roads]

Tolls are going to be removed on the provincially operated section of the 407 (east of Brock Road) on June 1st.
