Here's the US-101 sign mentioned above, listing 10 1/2 miles to CA-85:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=95037&ll=37.131342,-121.633233&spn=0.003617,0.004898&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&hnear=Morgan+Hill,+California+95037&gl=us&t=h&z=18&layer=c&cbll=37.131259,-121.633183&panoid=iPmOMu6eoNHsymmFQxxBCA&cbp=12,333.72,,0,7.98

Since the installation of this sign, the Bailey Avenue interchange has been added (between Coyote Creek Golf Drive and CA-85), so this may go away via greenout or replacement.

I believe that sign is still there with CA-85 still being shown 10.5 miles away.  It was probably too far away and outside of the scope of the Bailey Road interchange project to get replaced.  I believe there is an interchange sequence sign just before the Coyote Creek Golf Drive exit that got replaced with a new one showing the Bailey Road exit.

I remember back in the day before CA 85 was built and the old sign pointed towards Scheller Ave and 11 miles to Bernal Road.

Also, US 101 NB at California Street in Ventura had a sign that lists Seacliff 9 miles away.  I-5 in Oceanside has Las Pulgas Road as 8 3/4 miles away.  Both signs are still up.

^ Yes. In fact, I'll put it on the "Worst of Road Signs" thread.

With regards to the interchange sequence sign in CentralCAroadgeek's last post, the Coyote Cr Golf Dr (Coyote Creek Golf Drive) exit was originally signed as Scheller Avenue.  When the name was changed with the opening of the Coyote Creek Golf Course, a greenout plate was used to change the sign.  Of course "Coyote Cr Golf Dr" is substantially longer than "Scheller Ave" which is why the letter heights were reduced to make it fit on the exiting sign.  The sign in your photograph is a new sign but appears to be a carbon-copy of the old sign and I suspect the contractor recycled the support structure (the mounting hardware on the overpass) which is why the sign could not be enlarged.

On SB 101, there's a sign saying that Cochrane Rd is 8-something miles away. This is located just south of 85.

I-77 SB has an 11-mile advance for the Akron-Canton Airport in order to avoid confusion with the older Akron Fulton Airport (old button copy and new Clearview signs both mention Municipal Airport, with it abbreviated "Muni Airport" on a smaller BGS on the ramp, but no one calls it that name.)

No available pic for it, but along I-95 Southbound in Wakefield, MA; there's a mileage sign for both I-93 and I-90 (Mass Pike).  7 miles is listed for I-93 and 21 is listed for I-90.

I remembered that sign when you mentioned it--the third line is Providence something like 63 miles or so?  Street view doesn't have a good image of it because for whatever reason they only drove northbound through there apparently.  Mass seems to put up that kind of sign from time to time--US 3 and I-93 NB also have signs with distances to I-495 and Concord, NH and southbound there is the sign with distances to 495, 128, and Boston.  Mixtures of distances to interchanges and cities.

The only reason why I didn't bother mentioning the Providence mileage on that BGS was because the intent of my post post was supplementing national highway 1's earlier post regarding distance to highway junctions.

I remember there were a couple of distance BGS' along I-93 that still had 128 shields on them.  Have they since been replaced with ones bearing I-95 shields?

Overhead sign on the Fairfax County Parkway (VA-286, formerly Route 7100). The Bing image is a lot clearer than the Google Street View image so I've opted for that one.

A rare one from Illinois, along I-57 in Kankakee.  Note that it lists route numbers and exit numbers.

It just occurred to me that the Kankakee exits sign has at least an omission if not an error. Exit 308 is not only US 52 but also US 45.  There is room for a 45 shield.  :hmmm:

I know--just thinking aloud about that sign being memorable for being way up in Lynnfield and not only mentioning Providence but the mileage.  Can't think of many other examples like that in Mass other than on the Mass Pike!

Mentioning it is my thinking--that the Exit 113 one pictured above probably should be a distance sign, not an exit sign, especially since there are so many exits in the meantime.  If Exit 113 were the very next exit after 123B, it might be a little more reasonable.
