It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

So many signs, sooooo many problems...

Wow, that salad bowl is crying out for a 'redesign this' intervention!  I'm sure Zeffy or someone else has a cure for all that.

Does this count as Sine Salad? I saw this on eastbound Park Avenue in Portland, ME, taken on September 6, 2014.

Unisine salad, perhaps?

At least it has a state-named interstate shield

With a HORRENDOUS looking US 1 shield. What the hell happened there?

There's a lot of that type of US shield in the Bangor area. Seemed to be prevalent for US 1, 1A, and 2, but not 3dus.

With the sun's glint on it, it almost looks like what one would get with a folding plastic "cardboard" tote box at work!

Since you called, I'll take the time to fix this...mess... and turn it into something more orderly. You'll find it in the Redesign This! thread when it's all said and done.  ;-)

That gargantuan I-565 shield looks like it's trying to push the 2 US 231-US 431 post assemblies out of the way or something.

I missed the better salad on the other side of the interchange.

BTW, you are seeing things right; AL 20 East and US 72 West are going the same direction here.

Wonder what happened to that 3. Looks pretty crooked.

Anyway, I have my own pic.

It's only 4 signs, but I decided to post it because it has 4 different types of signs.

State route (NY 9B), US route, Interstate, Provincial Route (Quebec Autoroute 15).

Most of this, though, is redundant as the overhead, and each of the two ground assemblies give out the same information.

However take down the overhead and just use the ground shields and it is still overkill for a driver to safely process.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

Has anyone else noticed that I-435 goes west then north?

It makes a 90 degree turn there as a loop of Kansas City.

I know that the changing of cardinal direction has been talked about before, but that's the first time I have ever seen it signed.

A lot of places do it, especially for ring roads. The Capital Beltway around DC switches a bunch of times: it's E-W between Silver Spring and Potomac, N-S between Potomac and Springfield, and E-W between Springfield and the Potomac, and N-S in PG County, Maryland. It's confusing, and people have gotten lost because of it, but as long as you pay attention to the control cities, you're fine.

Stumbled across this in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, while looking for something else on Street View:

The Terminus of NS 103 isn't much better, and it is wrong too.
They said take a left at the fork in the road.  I didn't think they literally meant a fork, until plain as day, there was a fork sticking out of the road at a junction.
