There is so much land around that city, they need to build an inner bell in between the 840 and downtown, complete the north side of 840, and start planning right away for another outer belt. I mean what the fuck is wrong with these people they just see all these people moving in and they're just like OK and then they shrug their shoulders and then act surprised when there's traffic congestion and then tell people oh we can't build more freeways, cause we don't have land. Fuck off with that bullshit. Eminent domain. Use it.

The northern half of 840 has been dead since 2003, and is very unlikely to ever be revived. As for building an outer beltway, where would you put it? The Nashville area will likely have to make do with upgrading and expanding the existing freeways.

The savings is in mental energy.
Let's see, 10 minutes longer but I probably won't even have to tap the cruise off?  Or deal with all the weaving maniacs while punching the core of Nashville?

I'll take the former every time.
Plus, there's some bitchin' rock cuts on 840.  :coffee:

When my wife and I were on our 2018 road trip, one day we went from Frisco, TX (where her cousin lived) to Brentwood, TN (where my cousin lived).  We passed Jackson around 8 PM and I called my cousin from there to help with an ETA.

Instead of going all the way in (I-440 wouldn't have made much of a difference) I took I-840 east to I-65 north.  When we pulled in, my cousin was surprised we'd made it from Jackson so quickly.

All I know is that it was a much calmer route; I don't know if it was actually shorter.

If the freeways in downtown Nashville do get reconstructed, my guess is TNDOT will require long distance truckers taking I-40 to use I-840 if they are not making deliveries in Nashville proper.

What is the road quality of I-840?
