State Route 259

1.66 miles in length, California State Route 259 is a very short freeway connection between westbound SR 210 / southbound I-215 and northbound I-215 / eastbound SR 210. The lone interchange between the two freeways is with Highland Avenue (former SR 18/30 Business). A connection to Baseline Street is afforded after the merge between SR 259 and Interstate 215.
Since the state route is very short, it is generally unsigned, though a few reassurance shields were posted in 2007 to coincide with the opening of the nearby SR 210 freeway. Northbound, it is signed for eastbound SR 210, and southbound it is signed for southbound Interstate 215. SR 259 more or less forms the east end of the San Bernardino Freeway, which travels from San Bernardino west to Los Angeles.

Exit 1 A connects SR 259 north with Highland Avenue, the former business routes for SR 18 and SR 30 in San Bernardino.

Highland Avenue was the pre-freeway alignment for SR 30. The business route was established upon completion of the freeway. SR 18 used to extend southwest from SR 210 in San Bernardino along then-SR 30 via SR 259, Interstate 215, and roughly via SR 91. During the time when SR 18 was a freeway along I-215 and CSR 259, its old alignment through San Bernardino was SR 18 Business.

SR 18 Business lined Highland Avenue east from Exit 1 B to Sierra Way. The business designation was a throwback to when SR 18 used to continue southwest along SR 259, Interstate 215, and SR 91 toward Long Beach. That state route was retracted in the mid-1960s.

Removed after 2008, the only SR 259 south reassurance shield preceded the off-ramp at Exit 1 B.

Prior to reconstruction of the exchange joining SR 259 with Interstate 215, Base Line Street was a left exit. This was subsequently replaced with a slip ramp onto Exit 45 from I-215 south.
