Traveling 58.79 miles northward through western Georgia, State Route 219 originates along River Road in the city of Columbus from U.S. 27/SR 1 (Veterans Parkway) and concludes at SR 34 near Viola in Heard County.
Heading northward, SR 219 meets U.S. 80 just east of Lake Oliver along the Chattahoochee River and continues through Green Island Hills to Standing Bay Creek State Park. Continuing into Harris County, the highway traverses hilly terrain to Lake Manderly and the west end of SR 315 at Piney Grove. Shifting east to avoid Williams Mountain, SR 219 parallels Interstate 185 north across Pine Mountain. The two separate at Whitesville, with SR 219 remaining to the west into Troup County at Jones Crossroads.
SR 219 advances to Baughs Crossroads and Interstate 85 north of Smiths Crossroad. Entering the city of LaGrange along Whitesville Road, the state route reconnects with U.S. 27/SR 1 (Morgan Street) ahead of Downtown. SR 219 overlaps with U.S. 27 north 0.47 miles to Broad Street west. The route previously continued north along U.S. 27/29 (New Franklin Road) directly to Mooty Bridge Road, but instead takes Greenwood Street north from Broad Street to Mooty Bridge Road.
Leaving LaGrange, SR 219 (Mooty Bridge Road) crosses West Point Lake ahead of Wares Crossroads, and again at the Chattahoochee River. Entering rural Heard County, SR 219 angles northwest to Kirk Road before turning northward to SR 34.
