Interstate 25 North
Interstate 25 branches north from a two-wye interchange with I-10 ahead of New Mexico State University (NMSU). The first three interchanges of the freeway serve the city of Las Cruces. 01/14/06
The substandard trumpet interchange joining Interstate 10 with I-25 was rebuilt during the I-10/I-25 Interchange Reconstruction Project. Costing $37 million, the 12 month project replaced a sharp loop ramp from I-10 east to I-25 north with a flyover.1 The high speed ramp merges onto I-25 north ahead of the Cholla Road overpass, where the previous first confirming marker stood. 01/14/06
Exit 1 joins Interstate 25 with University Avenue east of NMSU. University Avenue travels west from a parclo interchange with I-25 and NMSU Golf Course through the University Park community in Las Cruces. 01/14/06
NMSU occupies a wedge of land sandwiched between I-25 to the east and I-10 to the southwest. University Avenue provides direct access to the campus from both freeways. The New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum lies 1.5 miles to the east of Exit 1. 01/14/06
Northbound Interstate 25 at Exit 1 for University Avenue and NMSU. University Avenue (FL 5508) was formerly a part of NM 101 west to I-10 at NM 478 (Main Street / old U.S. 80-85). 01/14/06
Advancing north from University Avenue, I-25 next meets Lohman Avenue (former NM 342). 01/14/06
The freeway was expanded in 2015/16 between University Avenue and Exit 3 with the addition of auxiliary lanes in both directions. 01/14/06
Lohman Avenue constitutes a multi-lane arterial through a commercial area anchored by Mesilla Valley Mall. 01/14/06
Exit 3 partitions with Interstate 25 northbound for Lohman Avenue. Lohman Avenue east extends to Sonoma Ranch Boulevard. Westbound the arterial continues toward Downtown, splitting into the one way couplet of Amador Avenue (west) and Lohman Avenue (east) along the way. 01/14/06
Entering the diamond interchange (Exit 3) with Lohman Avenue on I-25 north. NM 342 previously ran four miles west along Lohman Avenue (FL 5614) to NM 292 at Motel Boulevard. 01/14/06
Rebuilt in 2002, the overpass carrying Lohman Avenue across I-25 features a decorative paint job reflective of local area culture. 01/14/06
1.50 miles south of U.S. 70 (Exit 6) on Interstate 25 north. Albuquerque, New Mexico's largest city is 226 miles to the north, followed by the state capital of Santa Fe in 286 miles. 01/14/06
A pair of diagrammatic overheads precede the directional cloverleaf interchange (Exit 6) with U.S. 70 at Main Street. U.S. 70 constitutes a full freeway leading east to Organ from Las Cruces. 01/14/06
U.S. 70 west follows Main Street southwest from Exit 6 toward the Las Cruces city center and Picacho Avenue (former U.S. 80) west. Historically U.S. 85 combined with U.S. 70 northward along Main Street and U.S. 82 accompanied U.S. 70 east across San Augustin Pass to Alamogordo. 01/14/06
Heading east into the desert, U.S. 70 provides a direct route to White Sands National Monument, White Sands Missile Range, and the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo. 01/14/06
Once Interstate 25 north reaches Exit 6, signage references the slip ramp connector from U.S. 70 east to Del Rey Boulevard. Del Rey Boulevard stems north from Telshor Boulevard / Northrise Drive nearby through suburban areas along the east side of the freeway. 01/14/06
Departing from Exit 6 first is the ramp for the U.S. 70 south side frontage road to Del Rey Boulevard. Frontage roads run along both sides of the U.S. 70 freeway east to NASA Road. 01/14/06
A high speed ramp leads east onto U.S. 70 (Bataan Memorial Highway) toward Organ and Alamogordo. The ramp for U.S. 70 (Main Street) west ties into a signalized intersection with the ending freeway. 01/14/06
