Two lanes join I-287/NY 17 north with I-87 (New York State Thruway) northbound in the village of Hillburn, two miles ahead of the Sloatsburg Service Area.

A trumpet interchange (Exit 18) joins I-87 (New York Thruway) with NY 299 west to New Paltz and east to Poughkeepsie in one mile.

Originally opened as part of the Maybrook Railroad Line in 1889, the steel cantilever span across the Hudson River between Highland and Poughkeepsie was converted by 2009 into the Walkway Over the Hudson, the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world (Walkway Over The Hudson, n.d.).
