The westbound span across the Mississippi River opened in July 1984 with two-way traffic and four overall lanes. It was accompanied by a new three lane eastbound bridge in December 1990.

A parclo interchange (Exit 3) to the immediate west of the Jefferson Barracks Bridge joins I-255/U.S. 50 with Koch Road. Koch Road links the freeway with Jefferson Barracks Division VA Hospital to the north, Robert Koch Hospital Road west to Oakville, and Bussen Quarry along the river to the south.

These confirming markers for I-255/U.S. 50 west precede the parclo interchange (Exit 2) with Missouri Route 231 (Telegraph Road). The freeway passes south of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, which Route 231 connects I-255 with via Sheridan Road east.

U.S. 50 parts ways with Interstate 255 west in 1.5 miles for the beginning of Lindbergh Boulevard. The original construction of I-255 directly overlaid Lindbergh Boulevard from the original Jefferson Barracks Bridge west to the wye interchange (Exit 1 C) where U.S. 50 branches north to Mehlville.

Missouri Route 231 replaced Highway VV south of Lindbergh Boulevard (old U.S. 50 Bypass) and Highway V north of it by 1967. The 12.23 mile long route takes Telegraph Road south through Oakville to Arnold and U.S. 61/67 (Jeffco Boulevard). North of Exit 2, the Route 231 joins Kingston Drive by Jefferson Barracks County Park to Broadway and the St. Louis city line.

Lindbergh Boulevard shifts northward from I-255 through Mehlville to South County Center mall and a SPUI with Interstate 55. U.S. 61/67 north combine with U.S. 50 west from Lemay Ferry Road to Sunset Hills.

Lemay Ferry Road continues north from U.S. 61/67 as Missouri Route 267 to Luxemburg and the Patch community of south St. Louis. U.S. 61/67 follow the arterial southwest to Oakville and Arnold in Jefferson County.

A loop ramp joins Interstate 255 west from U.S. 61/67 a half mile from Interstate 55. The St. Louis beltway continues as I-270 north 2.5 miles to Route 21 at Exit 2 and 4.5 miles to Route 30 at Exit 3.

I-255 west ends and Interstate 270 north begins to Sunset Hills, Kirkwood and Maryland Heights. Exit 1 B leaves for the 12 miles leading I-55 north to Downtown.

The two lane ramp to Interstate 55 north joins a collector distributor roadway to the SPUI (Exit 197) with U.S. 50-61-67 (Lindbergh Boulevard). Motorists taking Exit 1 B combine with the mainline ahead of St. George.
