Interstate 265 Kentucky Route 841 North
I-265/KY 841 shift from eastbound to northbound directional banners beyond the Exit 23 on-ramp from Taylorsville Road. 11/04/09
A cloverleaf interchange (Exits 25A/B) joins I-265/KY 841 (Gene Snyder Freeway) with Interstate 64 in 1.5 miles. 11/04/09
Stretching 185 miles across Kentucky, Interstate 64 joins the state's largest city with the capital of Frankfort, Lexington and Ashland. I-64 carries six overall lanes west from Exit 25 as part of a commuter route east to Shelbyville. 11/04/09
Interstate 265 continues ten miles north from Interstate 64 to meet Interstate 71 in northern Louisville. Interstate 71 joins the city with Covington and Cincinnati, Ohio. 11/04/09
Constituting the southern leg of Kentucky's Golden Triangle, Interstate 64 travels 56 miles east to join Interstate 75 south at Lexington. Overall I-64 travels 968 miles from Wentzville, Missouri to Hampton Roads, Virginia. 11/04/09
Exit 25B loops from I-265/KY 841 north onto Interstate 64 west to Jeffersontown, St. Matthews and downtown Louisville. 11/04/09
Interstate 265 north & KY 841 reassurance shield assembly posted north of Interstate 64. The freeway straddles the Middletown city line to Avoca. 11/04/09
The next exit along the Gene Snyder Freeway northbound is that of Exit 27 with U.S. 60 (Shelbyville Road) in Middletown. 11/04/09
Exit 27 consists of a diamond interchange between Interstate 265 and U.S. 60 (Shelbyville Road). U.S. 60 represents the main pre-interstate east/west road in Louisville. From there, it runs east through the suburbs of St. Matthews and Middletown before it ends up here at the Gene Snyder Freeway. Middletown has about 5,700 people and became a city in 1797. It's noted for its historic central district and upscale residential areas. 11/12/04
Northbound at the Exit 27 ramp departure to U.S. 60 (Shelbyville Road). U.S. 60 follows Shelbyville Road west through Middletown to Douglass Hills, Jeffersontown, and Hurstbourne and east to Eastwood and Shelby County. 11/04/09
I-265/KY 841 continue north to Exit 29 (Old Henry Road). The Old Henry Road exit only recently opened, in 1999. 11/12/04
One half mile south of the Exit 29 diamond interchange (Old Henry Road) at the Aiken Road under crossing of I-265/KY 841. 11/12/04
Drivers bound for Old Henry Road depart the northbound Gene Snyder Freeway at Exit 29. Old Henry Road has recently been the scene of several bitter battles between developers and residents with government caught in the middle. In 2004 Old Henry Crossing began as a huge mixed-use development just on the east side of the freeway. The road itself was widened and realigned from the freeway to the northeast in 2005/2006. The plan currently is to widen the road to a parkway even further out to the county line. Of all of the interchanges in metro Louisville, this one has seen the most development and new building within the five years leading to 2008. 11/04/09
Attached to the Old Henry Road overpass is the 1.25 mile overhead for KY 146 (Exit 30). KY 146 begins near Interstate 264 and U.S. 60 and runs east town, to parallel I-71 before hitting the town of La Grange, the county seat of adjacent Oldham County. From there it continues eastward a short distance to US 421. 11/04/09
Apartment complexes line the northwestern curve of I-265/KY 841 ahead the Exit 30 folded diamond interchange. 11/04/09
KY 146 runs west from Exit 30 through the suburb of Anchorage. The town is over 12 miles from the Ohio River, and thus its name is a little bit strange. The origins of Anchorage's name go back to 1878 when residents incorporated and named the area after the home of a riverboat captain they admired. Anchorage is also notable as the home of Papa John's Pizza founder John Schnatter, who owns a good bit of land in town. 11/04/09
Now facing west, Interstate 265 and Exit 30 part ways at O'Bannon in northeast Louisville. KY 146 (La Grange Road) travels east 8.8 miles from a beginning at U.S. 60 near St. Matthews through Lyndon and Anchorage to Pewee Valley in Oldham County. 11/04/09
Interstate 265 travels alongside Chamberlain Lane, the main access road to the adjacent Ford Truck Assembly Plant. 11/04/09
Continuing west, a metric/English units distance sign lists KY 1447 (Exit 32), KY 22 (Exit 34), and Interstate 71 (Exit 35), the final three interchanges of Interstate 265 north. 11/12/04
KY 1447 (Westport Road) meets I-265/KY 841 north at a directional cloverleaf interchange near Worthington Hills and the Ford Motor Truck plant. 11/12/04
Northbound at the Exit 32 loop ramp to KY 1447 (Westport Road). Westport Road is one of the busiest arterial roads in the city, and runs east from St. Matthews. The road was being widened to five lanes through here and a new single point urban interchange at I-264 was added since 2008.
This part of Westport has some of Louisville's newer upscale retail and condo complexes. 11/04/09
I-265/KY 841 see separate shield assemblies on the stretch leading northwest to KY 22 (Brownsboro Road). A mixture of single family homes, apartment buildings and retail line both sides of the Gene Snyder Freeway along this stretch. 11/04/09
Exit 34 joins I-265/KY 841 (Gene Snyder Freeway) with KY 22 (Brownsboro Road) via a parclo interchange. KY 22 travels west from Pewee Valley to U.S. 42 at Northfield. The state route varies between two and four lanes and forested stretches as it heads into Louisville, with large houses hidden beyond. Studies are underway currently to widen or further enhance the road. 11/04/09
Interstate 265 ends at the Exit 35A/B cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 71. Northbound I-71 serves the far flung suburbs of Oldham County on the 68 mile drive to Interstate 75 at Walton. 11/04/09
KY 841 continues as a super-two expressway to U.S. 42 at Prospect, with the planned East End Bridge slated to continue the freeway northwest to Utica, Indiana. Interests to Indiana should take Interstate 71 south to the Kennedy Bridge (Interstate 65) north until the potential bridge completion in 2017 or 2018. 11/04/09
Interstate 71 travels west from Exit 35B to Interstate 264 at Northfield and an end at Interstate 64 near downtown Louisville. 11/04/09
KY 841 north
Turning westward again, KY 841 travels solo from Interstates 71 and 265 by Green Spring to end at U.S. 42. 11/04/09
The roadways of KY 841 (Gene Snyder Freeway) converge and begin the super 2 expressway configuration of the state route. 11/04/09
Freeway ends sign posted two kilometers out from the end at U.S. 42 in south Prospect. 11/04/09
A grassy clearing on the south side of KY 841 reserved for the future eastbound roadway from the East End Bridge. 11/04/09
A ramp for U.S. 42 northbound to Prospect was closed and all traffic continues down the freeway mainline to a signal beyond this freeway ends sign. 11/04/09
KY 841 west expands to three lanes ahead of the conclusion at U.S. 42. U.S. 42 curves southwest from the freeway end to Northfield, Windy Hills, Indian Hills and its conclusion outside downtown Louisville. 11/04/09
U.S. 42 continues north through Prospect on a 355 mile journey mirroring Interstate 71 to Cincinnati and Cleveland, Ohio.
Construction on the East End Bridge that will link KY-841 here with the Indiana 265 freeway north of Jeffersonville is slated to begin in 2012. Anticipated for completion by 2017, the bridge will be tolled, as will the Kennedy Bridge replacement slated for 2018.1 11/04/09
