Interstate 295 leaves Interstate 95 (Maine Turnpike) via a wye interchange and approaches Exit 51 with Maine 9 & 126 (Lewiston Road). The initial mile of the freeway is tolled due to the connection with the Maine Turnpike. Maine 9 & 126 share pavement between Sabattus and Downtown Gardiner. A seven-lane toll plaza sits under the former ramp overpass that directly joined I-295 north with I-95 south. The direct ramps were dismantled and replaced with movements using adjacent SR 9 & 126 by the Gardiner Service Plaza.
