Interstate 470 Kansas Guides

The circumferential route at Topeka was part of the original Interstate Highway System approved by the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHO). The State Highway Commission of Kansas submitted Interstate 470 in a letter July 25, 1968 dated designated the loop as Interstate 470

due to the fact that we have a state route designated US-270, provisions for which were recognized in the procedures set up in order to avoid duplication of route numbers on the existing State Highway System.
