
Forming part of a beltway encircling Cedar Rapids, Iowa 100 arcs northeast from U.S. 30/218 near Fairfax to Covington, north Cedar Rapids and Marion along a 17 mile route. The state highway is a limited access highway west of Interstate 380, and commercial arterial east of I-380 to Lindale Mall and U.S. 151 Business (1st Avenue E). Bypassing Marion to the south, the easternmost 4.0 miles of Iowa 100 four mile comprise an at-grade expressway to U.S. 151/Iowa 13 at Secrist Road (CR E45).
Planned in the 1960s, Iowa 100 was extended west in two phases at a cost $200 million. Construction on the first phase commenced in Spring 2014. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the four mile section between Edgewood Road and Covington Road (CR W36) took place on December 3, 2016,1 with Iowa 100 opening here on December 15, 2016.2 Phase two built the highway south from Covington to U.S. 30/218. It opened to traffic on December 12, 2018 following a ribbon cutting ceremony held by the City of Cedar Rapids on December 1.3,4
