Route 255

Illinois Route 255 is a freeway spurring 20.50 miles north from I-255 and I-270 through Edwardsville, Roxana, Wood River, Alton and Godfrey in the St. Louis area. IL 255 provides both a commuter route and a bypass of the Mississippi River cities between U.S. 67, south of Jerseyville, and the St. Louis beltway. Route 255 opened northward in stages:1,2,3,4
- I-270 to Route 143 (Exit 6) - 6.8 miles opened in October 1998
- Route 143 (Exit 6) to Fosterburg Road (Exit 13) - 7.6 miles opened in October 2006.
- Fosterburg Road (Exit 13) to Seminary Road (Exit 16) - 2.75 miles on August 22, 2008.
- Seminary Road (Exit 16) to Humbert Road (Exit 19) - on October 26, 2012
- Humbert Road (Exit 19) to Route 111/267 (Exit 20) - on November 21, 2012.
- Route 111/267 (Exit 20) to U.S. 67 - completion of 3.4 mile segment north from Exit 16 in July 2013
