As of 2025, Nevada State Route 596 follows two sections of Jones Boulevard, an urban arterial extending south from northwest Las Vegas to Spring Valley. The southern leg stretches 2.167 miles from W Sahara Avenue to Aberdeen Lane / Clarice Avenue. Measuring 1.952 miles in length, the northern segment runs between Smoke Ranch Road and SR 599 (Rancho Drive).

The 2017 State Maintained Highways of Nevada Descriptions and Maps lists SR 596 as a continuous route along Jones Boulevard, from Tropicana Avenue north 7.16 miles to Smoke Ranch Road. The state route was reduced to 4.09 miles, between Sahara Avenue and Smoke Ranch Road, as of the 2019 edition of the NDOT publication. A further reduction in the route was noted in the 2022 edition where SR 596 was listed at just 2.071 miles between Sahara Avenue and Aberdeen Lane. The second section of SR 596, from Smoke Ranch Road north was added by 2023.
