Pennsylvania Route 3

PA 3 is a suburban and urban route running east from the borough of West Chester to Center City in Philadelphia. Measuring 25.2 miles, PA 3 joins Chatwood in Chester County with Newtown Square and Broomall in Delaware County along West Chester Pike.

Within Downtown West Chester, PA 3 partitions along a couplet. Eastbound PA 3 follows Market Street from U.S. 322 Business at High Street to West Chester Pike at Paoli Pike (SR 2014) and Chatwood. PA 3 westbound follows a combination of Gay Street west, Matlack Street north and Chestnut Street west to U.S. 322 Business at High Street (old PA 100).

West Chester Pike constitutes a four lane, divided arterial from U.S. 202/322 at Chatwood to Upper Darby outside Philadelphia. Shifting onto Market Street, PA 3 continues along a four lane boulevard at the borough of Millbourne and across Cobbs Creek into West Philadelphia.

The elevated Market-Frankford Line spans PA 3 (Market Street) to Cobbs Creek Parkway, where it shifts south to a couplet along Chestnut Street eastbound and Walnut Street westbound. West of the Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania, PA 3 passes between Powelton and University City. The state route concludes at PA 611 (Broad Street) at Penn Square and City Hall.
