Route 940

PA 940 serves the Poconos Region in Northeastern Pennsylvania along a 43.0 mile long course from the city of Hazleton east to Paradise Valley in Monroe County. The state route branches east from PA 309 (Church Street) along Hazleton Freeland Highway from the north Hazleton city line to Harleigh. PA 940 turns northeast to the borough of Freeland and Interstate 80 at Exit 273 and White Haven.
Crossing into Carbon County, PA 940 parallels I-80 to the north through Kidder township. PA 940 meets the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeastern Extension (I-476) at the Pocono Interchange opposite I-80 at Exit 277. Continuing east into Tobyhanna township, PA 940 heads to Lake Naomi, Pocono Pines and Interstate 380 at Pocono Summit. Pocono Summit Road leads PA 940 east to PA 611 in the borough of Mount Pocono.

PA 940 enters a commercialized intersection linking access roads from I-80 at Exit 277 to the south with the Pocono Interchange (Exit 95) on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeastern Extension to the north.
