U.S. 17 Business

U.S. 17 Business branches northeast from the U.S. 17 Bypass freeway near the Jones / Craven County line to the town of River Bend. Entering the city of New Bern, U.S. 17 Business follows Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard along a commercial arterial east to Twin Rivers Mall and U.S. 17/70 along Future I-42. U.S. 17 Business at River Bend and New Bern was created with the1 0.1 mile relocation of U.S. 17 onto a new freeway north from the Jones County line to U.S. 70, and alongside U.S. 70 east to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The bannered route was approved by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) on May 5, 2011.

U.S. 17 Business at Pollocksville was established in 2019 after the U.S. 17 Bypass was completed to the west of the town. The bypass freeway opened to traffic north from NC 58 following a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 14, 2019.1 AASHTO approved the extension of U.S. 17 Business south along 7.40 miles of old U.S. 17 at Pollocksville and Jones County on October 5, 2019.
