U.S. 50 continues east from New York Avenue in the District and the exchange with Baltimore-Washington Parkway as a freeway in Maryland. The succeeding exit is for MD 202 (Landover Road) south to Upper Marlboro.

Exit 5 joins U.S. 50 east with MD 410 (East-West Highway). MD 410 heads southeast to Ardwick-Ardmore Road and northwest across the northern Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., en route to MD 355 (former U.S. 240) in Bethesda.

MD 450 leads northwest from Exit 5 to Baltimore-Washington Parkway (Route 295). U.S. 50 advances east one mile to Exit 7 with I-95/495 (Capital Beltway) and Hidden Interstate 595.

MD 3 (Robert Crain Highway) leads north along an arterial route to Millersville, where it meets I-97. Interstate 97 extends from there to I-695 and I-895 in Baltimore.

A principle arterial, MD 3 (Robert Crain Highway) angles 7.11 miles northeast to I-97 at MD 32. I-97 replaced MD 3 north to Glen Burnie, however MD 3 Business remains to the east.

The HOV lane ends eastbound beyond the exchange bringing U.S. 301 north onto I-595/U.S. 50.
