U.S. 322 Business follows Atherton Street east from I-99/U.S. 220-322 (Mt. Nittany Expressway) in Patton township to State College. Running along the south side of Penn State University, U.S. 322 Business proceeds east to Downtown State College where it meets PA 23 (College / Beaver Avenues). Continuing beyond the borough, U.S. 322 Business enters Harris township on Boals Avenue. PA 45 combines with U.S. 322 Business through the community of Boalsburg between Shingletown Road and Earlystown Road. The business route concludes at the east end of the Mt. Nittany Expressway.
U.S. 322 Business was established when U.S. 322 was relocated onto the Mt. Nittany Expressway by late Fall 1985. This route was approved by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) on October 12, 1985.
