U.S. 400

U.S. 400

U.S. 400 extends 14.81 miles into the Centennial State, wholly alongside U.S. 50 from Hamilton County, Kansas to U.S. 385 in the town of Granada. U.S. 50/400 parallel a BNSF Railroad line west to the town of Holly and across the Arkansas River midway between SH 89 and U.S. 385. U.S. 400 concludes where U.S. 385 joins U.S. 50 west to Lamar.

U.S. 400 was established in 1994 across southern Kansas, between U.S. 83 in Garden City and I-44/U.S. 166 in southwestern Missouri, in part to provide another long distance route, but also to promote tourism and economic development. Colorado and Kansas jointly requested extending U.S. 400 west along U.S. 50 from Garden City to U.S. 385 in Granada. Approved by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) on April 21, 1996,

By extending [U.S. 400] into eastern Colorado, the route will now become a distinctive corridor which will traverse the entire southern half of Kansas and part of Missouri and Colorado.
