State Route 37

Virginia Route 37

A 9.10 mile route, SR 37 loops to the west of the city of Winchester between I-81 (Exit 310) and U.S. 11 just south of I-81 (Exit 317). The majority of the loop is limited access, with the exception of the southern end at the diamond interchange with I-81.

Projects at the south end modified the exchange with Interstate 81 and extended the four lane route slightly east. The Exit 310 Interchange Modification Project, which began spring 2015, widened the footprint of the existing diamond interchange by expanding the ramps outward into a "spread-diamond" configuration, and added dual turn lanes. Work included removal of the existing ramps as well as an expanded loop ramp at the nearby folded diamond interchange with U.S. 11.1

Additional work to SR 37 extended the four lane route slightly east to meet realigned I-81 frontage roads at an at-grade intersection. This phase of the project relocated both Tasker Road and Hillandale Lane 1,100 feet to the east to accommodate the expanded footprint of Exit 310, and allow for any potential future interchange with SR 37. Traffic opened along the frontage roads on June 14, 2016.2 Construction of the $25 million project was fully opened by March 2017.1

The official Virginia highway map shows a proposed eastern extension of SR 37 from Exit 310 toward U.S. 17/50, but no formal plans are in place at this time.
