Interstate 95 Delaware – North
Carbon copying of original signs in 2000 retained Fourth Street from the 1960s-overheads along I-95 through Wilmington. 2006 sign replacements again included Fourth Street (SR 9). 03/22/04
Intersecting SR 9 in six blocks, Adams Street stems north from the off-ramp at Exit 6 to parallel I-95 northward to Lovering Avenue. SR 9, a 58-mile route leading south to New Castle and Dover, originates in the Little Italy section of Wilmington. 12/20/16
Pull through panels used along Interstate 95 doubled as interchange sequence signs. Older guide signs used "Must Exit" instead of "Exit Only" as well. 2006 sign replacements retained the Must Exit nomeclature. 10/12/04
Centered exit tabs remained on several of the Interstate 95 overheads through Wilmington until 2006. 10/12/04
The Hilltop community of Wilmington rises just north of the I-95 viaduct. Tree lined streets and row homes are representative of the city. 03/22/04
A 1998 sign replacement of a 1960s guide sign for Exit 7 with Seventh Street retained the center exit tab. This sign was again replaced in 2006. 10/12/04
The pull-through panel preceding Exit 7 listed the next three interchanges (Exits 8, 9, and 10); however the 2006-replacement omitted Exit 10 (Harvey Road). 10/12/04
A monotube assembly for Exit 7 replaced this sign bridge on the Wilmington Viaduct by 2020. 12/30/18
I-95 transitions from the Wilmington Viaduct into a below grade freeway. All subsequent signs for Exit 7 were replaced by 2006. 04/10/04
One block to the north at Seventh Street on I-95 north. Improvements made here between 2001 and 2004, included bridge painting, new landscaping and new guard rails. 03/22/04
2006 replaced overheads at the Eighth Street overpass above I-95. The replacement sign for Exit 8 changed Right Lane to 1 Mile. 04/10/04
A U.S. 202 marker appears along side the northbound on-ramp from Tenth Street. All other trailblazers and guide signs for I-95 posted along Wilmington city streets ignore dthe overlap with U.S. 202. 03/18/04
Large Interstate 95 northbound reassurance shield posted at the Adams Street northbound on-ramp from SR 52. There are no U.S. 202 reassurance shields posted at all on the 5.94-mile overlap between the two routes. 03/18/04
"This Lane Ends - 3/4 Mile" overhead carbon copied in 2006 from a 1960s-era sign. The sign was the subject of the August 20, 2007 "Fix It:" column in The News Journal (Wilmington, DE). A reader wrote to the Journal paper that the sign was incorrect in that the lane does not end, but rather continues to Exit 8. 10/12/04
DelDOT amended the lane ends sign at the Brandywine Creek bridge with an overlay changing "this lane ends" to "this lane exit only" 12/29/07
The Brandywine Creek Bridge underwent a make over in the early 2000s that included new decorative lamps, repainting, and artistic guard rails with a cursive "W" inscribed at intervals symbolizing the city of Wilmington. 03/22/04
Leading toward Exit 8 was the last stretch of original concrete pavement along Interstate 95 in Delaware. 04/28/04
Contractor outline shields for U.S. 202 and SR 202 along I-95 north during the rebuilding of Exit 8. 07/31/13
Passing under 18th Street, I-95/U.S. 202 advanced a quarter mile to their split. Construction between 2011 and 2014 expanded Exit 8 into a two-lane off-ramp. 04/28/04
A pull through panel for I-95 to Philadelphia took the place of the interchange sequence sign at 18th Street in 2017. 12/29/07
An older overhead referenced the lane drop at Exit 8 just ahead of a CSX Railroad bridge. This sign was carbon copied with a new panel in 2006, but removed by 2012. 03/22/04
Installed in 1998, this carbon copied sign retained the 1960s design for Exit 8. Concrete pictured here was paved over with asphalt by 2006. 03/18/04
Exit 8 partitions into ramps for U.S. 202 north (Concord Pike) and SR 202 south (Concord Avenue). 12/23/06
The off-ramp to SR 202 south was reconfigured in 2004-05 into separate turn lanes for Concord Avenue south and the turn lane for Broom Street / Miller Road east. 04/24/05
The previous set of signs along Concord Avenue north at I-95/US 202 were carbon copied after 2007. The pull through panel is the lone sign referencing Talleyville anywhere for U.S. 202 (Concord Pike). 08/07/04
